Caol Ila - 25 year

Postby shiellb » Sat Sep 01, 2007 8:26 pm

I've just been given a bottle of Caol Ila. On the side of the carton it says the scotch was distilled in 1978. It is natural gask strength and 59.4% vol 70cle. My first question is: what does 70cle mean? My second question is what will this scotch taste like? The last question is what is the cost of this bottle of scotch I'm going to enjoy sipping?

Oh, looking a gift horse in the mouth, now, are we?

Tasting notes can be found here. Should be a pretty smoky one.

The LCBO website lists this bottle at $299. Somebody likes you.

Not sure what that funny little e is, but the size of your bottle is 70 centilitres, or 700 millilitres, or .7 litres. That's standard size for the British market; bottles for the American market are 75cl. You can find both in Canada.

Hi Shiellb ,
This is the first 25yo Distillery bottling from 2004 .
To answer your first question it's the bottle Size , 70cl is 0.7 litre the little e is something that is added for the benefit of eurocrats in Brussels .
To answer the Second question , wonderful !
This is what the 12yo and 18yo should have been , Sweet , smoky , medicinal , touch peppery , hot , warming , pure Islay !
IMHO it blows the socks off the Laga 25yo O.B.
Enjoy !

Someone does indeed like you! This Caol Ila is in my Top Ten whiskies of all time. Truly stunning and powerful. Have not had another Caol Ila that even came close.
