Douglas Laing bottling of Ardbeg 25 Yrs (1975)

Postby r0b » Tue Sep 10, 2002 6:31 pm

Has anyone here tried this? If so, is it good? Got any tasting notes to share? I was just about to order one, but for some reason I am a sceptic when it's a DL bottling. I have never tried any of their bottlings, hence the doubts...

Hi r0b,
I've got a 1975 (October Dist,May 2001 bottled) 25yo ,as well as several others (see http://www.spirit-of-islay.co.uk/drinks_cupboard.html)its not a bad bottling but its not up to the distillery 1975 or LOTI .It has delicate Ardbeg flavours , but not the hard hitting that you usually get off Ardbeg .If you can find a Sept 1974/bottled Feb 2001 26yo its a mini Provenance! DL OMC bottlings arn't bad but they've flooded the market with a lot of average bottlings .There is a new DL Ardbeg bottling (1975/27yo sherry cask )that is supposed to be very good , also if someone offers you the 1972/29yo Ardbeggeddon bottle bite their hand off!

No Problem,
by the way the web address is http://www.spirit-of-islay.co.uk/drinks_cupboard.html
Not what showed on the page (why do they never come up right!)

Wow, that's an impressive collection you've got there. *drooling* Image

BTW, is the bottle & packaging in the Ardbeg style? I am assuming it's not...

I was referring to the Douglas Laing bottling, but it slipped my mind that theirs is a part of the "Old malt cask" series, so obviously it doesn't have the same look as the official Ardbeg bottles.

I can recommend the Ardbeg 27 year (distilled march 1973) OMC as well
