Old Bowmore

Postby misa » Sat Feb 03, 2007 3:32 am

Has anyone got any opinions of the old Bowmore bottlings, mostly the brown, dumpy bottles from 80´s.

Yes, they're generally great collectibles appreciating in value.

And I'd add, it is a very good product!

Keep intending to get a mini of the dumpy brown 12 with the gold label. The malt maniacs rated it well ahead of any of the OBs from the last decade or two. No chance of it's value appreciating though if I get hold of it.

Those dumpy 12yo bottlings have some spectacular spirit in them. Vastly superior to the 12yo that's been on the market (with various labels, bottles, and packaging) for the last 5 or 6 years.

I know the bottlings are now in the realm of collectors, but if I stumbled across one, I would definitely drink it.

Recently on Ebay UK, a whole collection of miniatures was donated to a charity and sold off by a seller who I know quite well.

I placed a few bids and managed to win various bottles.
As I don't collect miniatures I decided to drink a couple and then give the rest away to some of my loyal customers.

Amongst these was an excellent old, dumpy squarish-style bottle of Laphroaig which went to a Laphroaig drinker.
The bumpy brown Bowmore went to dedicated Bowmore fan.

The only bottle I still have is a miniature, 1980's Glen Garioch which is currently sitting alongside the same version large bottle.

BTW, I won the Bowmore dumpy for something like 99p.
