Balvenie 12 or 21?

Postby ScotchPalate » Sat Oct 07, 2006 10:44 am

I'd like to get a bottle of Balvenie. Most all of their line has received excellent reviews. Price not being an issue, between the 12 yr and the 21 yr. which do you prefer?

Thanks

I prefer the 12, but the two whiskies are quite different. One has been finished in sherry wood and the second one in Port. Since I am not fond of the Port finishes, I prefer to go to the 12th, although my favourite is the 15 YO.

Perhaps you'll consider the Balvenie 10 Founders Reserve? It's very. very good.

I like them both - hard choice really.

But go for the 21 - it's really a quite good dram.

I had a chance to taste the port wood while on Holiday in portugal last week and found it much more interesting that the 12 DW which I found a bit too smooth bordering on bland but that's just me

Between your 2 choices I would go for the 21 Yr. But personally ,I have to join Lawrence and Corbuso : IMHO the 10 Founder's reserve & the 15 Single Cask are the best .
