Quite like an American whiskey, but a beautiful kind of toffee flavor (maybe from the wood) - much different to the modern pot still whiskey. Aniseed too. Very unusual. Bottled at 65% abv and distilled in 1949.

It's unusual also in that although I described it as a toffee flavor, it's not that sweet. A confusing one.

Did you water it or taste it straigh or both and if so was there much of a dfference?
Did it burn or was it easy to drink?

Sounds very interesting. I love Aniseed flavour in whiskies.

I tried it with and without water. I think it's quite drinkable at cask strength. I think I added a little too much water, but I was only tasting a very small sample. I have some more.

It has taken a lot from the wood, but it's still very good.
