Taste is hugely subjective, but I find "Glendronach 15yo" and "Glenmorangie 15yo" both quite sweet.

In your opinion, what is the sweetest of the Scottish Single Malts?

You know, for someone who doesn't like to be over the top about whisky, you've certainly been starting a lot of new discussion threads, Eelbrook! :D

(Relax, I'm just stirring and having fun! :wink: :) )

The sweetest malt I've ever had was a private bottling of Glen Grant, Cask No. 5003, distilled in 1961 and bottled in 1983. (And then opened and tasted in 2004!!)

However, since that was a one-off, I should probably list a bottling that is more commonly available.

I agree with you that the Glenfarclas 15 is a sweet drop, but there's sweeter going around. Aberlour A'bunadh is a good example. Sometimes, even Ardbeg 10 strikes me as being very sweet.

Now I think about it, I have a bottle of Braes of Glenlivet 8yo from Cadenheads that is ever so sweet.

the sweetest whisky i ever had was a bottle of old inverness it was grainy sweet almost sickly

I've picked up a bit of knowledge from whisky books. But there's nothing beats titbits picked up from fellow drinkers. Especially, the "A Team" that post on here.

Sweetest untill now is Arran Single cask Bourbon Cask. so sweet i had to dedact points for it. Still a nice dram.

A weird point came up too while searching for the sweetest rated malt in my notes, i came up with 2 other malts that are so sweet it drowns the balance.
i know i shouldnt, but honestly fobids so i will post it anyway, i was suprised myself when i saw it so be gentle, the two others are Ardbeg 17 and Port Ellen 79 Signatory Cask Strength.
Ardbeg 17... any opinions? anyone else found it to be too sweet? It doesnt mean its bad ok, i rated it 91 .

Tom, I find Ardbeg and Lagavulin both have a lovely sweetness. No particular expression, but the general distillery styles.

I find all Bruichladdich a little bit sweet but I like it so that can't be a bad thing.

I find the Macallan cs to be sweeter than either Glenfarclas 12 or 15. Nevertheless, I like them all.

For a slightly different twist, how about the saltiest malt? I had a Bowmore cs the other night and a saltiness kept building until I found it unpleasant. A few drops of water and a little time to breathe resulted in a noticeable improvement.

glendronach is pretty close, probably second IMO to the glenfarclas. i find that i cant drink sweet whisky more than once in a while so i am far from an expert and dont try that many.
