A marriage of some of the finest malt whiskies in Speyside, 3,000 bottles of the Glen Orrin 30-Year-Old Blended Whisky will go on shelf across all 44 Scottish Aldi stores.
Aged in oak casks since 1982, the whisky is described as having a rich and complex nose with deep vanilla oakiness and delicate spice which develops into a smooth mouthfeel with flavours of fruitcake, honey and oak tannin all enveloped in a vanilla sweetness. It has an exceptionally long, rich and elegant finish.
And the liquid has already had the thumbs up from whisky connoisseur and author of the respected annual Whisky Bible – Jim Murray. He comments: “This is a clean, charming blend from the old school of whisky. The grains have made a first-class job of drawing out the most lively vanillas and, when fully warmed in the hand, the delightfully sharp marmalade is at its zenith.
“A light barley frame ensures that drier oak, patiently sculpted over three decades, is seen to its fullest advantage on the finish. Top notch Scotch where subtlety is the watchword, delicacy and understatement the key; yet with enough life and juiciness to entertain even the most fatigued taste buds. Truly outstanding.”
The whisky will come in a specially designed presentation tube making the ideal gift for any whisky aficionados this Christmas. Despite 68 bottles being delivered to each store, demand is likely to be high with early morning queues expected.
Tony Baines, MD Buying at Aldi comments: “With limited quantities available of such a rare and coveted drink, Aldi made the decision to release the Glen Orrin 30-Year-Old Blended Whisky exclusively in Scotland – the home of whisky. This move will allow true whisky lovers to experience a brilliant quality, aged dram at an affordable price.”
The whisky goes on shelf exclusively at Scottish Aldi stores at 10am on 9th December, and is available while stocks last.
