Opinions on Big Peat or Peat Monster?

Postby hoser » Tue Dec 20, 2011 9:27 am

Ok, ok...I know they're blends. But would this be good for a Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10 or 15 or Ardbeg drinker or are these too sweet?

Well they're blended malts which is a different kettle of fish to a blend(malt and grain).

I have tried both and I like Peat Monster. It is a nice peaty dram with a lot of maltsweetness in it.
Big Peat is too young and spirity for me.

For someone who likes smoky and peaty, would these be too "sweet"?

No.

Both are peaty enough, the Peat Monster isn't as peaty as the name would suggest. The Big Peat contains Port Ellen. Two very good vatted malts.
