I wish to discover a malt that is closest in flavour characteristics to the Ardbeg 10 line, that is not an Ardbeg production.
Could it be that nothing comes even remotely close to this beauty of a drop?

It DOES represent a unique flavour profile, to be sure. And it IS difficult for me to think offhand of another malt that offers a similar range of fragrances, tastes and textural qualities.
That said, I WOULD recommend the 12-year old cask-strength release(s) of Lagavulin as a worthy alternative. Perhaps more of a pineapple aspect (rather than citrus) lurking beneath the smokiness here. And yet there's also a clean, almost refreshing element that makes one come back for a second pour. Very good Lagavulin by any standard.
