He's tried 16yr & others but for some reason he is a big fan on this bottle.
Any suggestions of some single malts that have the same profile/taste as the 15yr longmorn? Trying for a Christmas present..
Aberlour 16yo Double Matured
Macallan 15yo Fine Oak
maybe even Cragganmore 12yo.
That said, I would concur that the Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel and Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask each offer complexities and delicious tastes. I might also toss the 16 Year Old Glenlivet NÃ durra Cask Strength into this group as a worthy alternative. The Clynelish 14 Year Old is equally complex, but here we're dealing with a totally different flavour thrust - some (like me) love it and some, well... Strathisla 12 Year Old is yet another whisky that, in terms of its deft balance between malt and oak as well as sweetness and dryness, comes close to the Longmorn 15YO.
I got him the Balvenie 15yo Single Barrel & he said it was as close he has found to the Longmorn 15yo so far.
The Longmorn 15 had a pleasant shortbread cookie-like malt sweetness that I've not found in any other malts whatsoever. I truly miss it.
Maybe there's a faint resemblance in that Glenlivet French Oak bottling but it's nowhere as good as the Longmorn 15. Also some bottlings of Ben Nevis have a distant resemblance. Good luck.
