I've never spent more than $80 on a bottle. Not sure if it's worth the price of 3 bottles since I'm such a rookie.

I say buy it! Buy two...if you aren't thrilled with the first one, you'll be able to sell the second one and cover the cost of both once the remaining very low stocks disappear.
I agree the Laph30 is a special whisky, as mentioned a little weak on the finish, but what's there is intricately unique. I only spend that much on a single bottle when it's: really exceptional quality, rare(nearing extinction) and still rather reasonably priced and this meets all those criteria. About to talk myself into one more bottle.
So, even if you don't decide to drink it right now, it's going to be an investment for sure: either something super cool to open down the road (when they're selling for 400 pounds per bottle as they're starting to do in Europe, or perhaps to use as trading fodder for some other bottles that you might come across in the future.
Either way, if you have the money, I would pick one or two of them up.
