Supply of Laphroaig 15 in the US

Postby Minnesota Malt » Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:02 am

Just curious if you guys here in the US have seen a lot of Laph 15 around still? I bought a bottle several months ago in fear that it would be all gone real soon, but I still see it around at pretty much every liquor store I go to in the Twin Cities area. Just yesterday I saw it on sale at a liquor store close to me for $41  and they had like 5 or 6 of them left!

Oh I made sure I did, wasn't even in the market to buy a bottle of single malt when I went in that liquor store, just beer, but when I saw it for that price I had to snag one. Like you said, :iwbrnt:

There's still some 15yo around here in the south @ $60. I try to pick one up as funds permit. And I have heard they will be delaying the roll out of the 18yo until the 15yo sells out. I'm not sure why that matters, its not like it's a rebranding or package change, plus it'll give Laphroaig more shelf space. I'm anxious to try the 18yo and also the Triple Wood that's coming next year.

I suppose I must be out of the loop, but is the Lap 15 a limited edition? I, too, see it everywhere I go, so it never struck me as something particularly rare or out of the ordinary.

I think it won't just disappear in a year: the Laphroaig 30 was like that as well. In fact, the L30 pretty much kicked around for a couple of years at $225 - $275 USD while it was starting to sell for 200 - 400 pounds in the UK and Europe before people started snapping up all the remaining bottles...

I don't expect the 15yo to command anywhere near those prices, but it will probably slowly be consumed and then - all of a sudden - will be mostly gone.

Whether it's value increases or not - I just saw a Laphroaig 30 on sale for $599 in Las Vegas, ouch!!! - remains to be seen, but I don't think that it can demand the high dollars that the 30yo seems to.

That being said, I really like the L15 and have a few of them stashed away for the future :)
