What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.
Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.
Not officially my purchase but it counts.
Talking to my boss last year about what drinks we loved, I mentioned how I loved Johnny Walker Blue and what do I get from him for a Christmas bonus?? You guessed it. It's $255 here in Arkansas. Blew me away. He just retired so no such luck next time.

I've noticed some forums don't have the edit button. Much to my chagrin. This is one of them, so I try to use (Preview) before I hit Submit.

I'd forgotten about that little issue. I guess we've all moved past that, since the Forums seem pretty healthy once more.

This thread is a little slower than it used to be, huh?
Just cracked open an old 55.7% Laphroaig Cask Strength. What a find.

Looks like those were my tasting notes about 9 years ago. I can't say much has changed, except that my nose and palate seem to be more sensitive.
Peat smoke, herbs, mouthwash, eucalyptus, anesthetic rub (?), tree bark, wild berries. The soft viscous mouthfeel of this one is just unparalleled for the price, a bit sea-waterish on the palate, with a huge aspirin-y finish (still mouth-puckering!) that resonates with a powerfully medieval melange of fruity notes.

Arctic Velvet Premium Whisky, it completely unique, however, is the water used to dilute it to drinking strength. Water from a deep well in Greenland is used, which is exceptionally soft and old (over 2000 years), and gives this whisky its signature mild and smooth taste.

I went to the New World Distillery in Melbourne (http://whiskywaffle.com/2015/07/14/navi ... -starward/) and while there bought a bottle of their 'New World Projects' - a single barrel series.
Mine was matured in a 200L Corio port barrel, most of which went to Rialto Tower's famous resteraunt: Lui's Bar, which was the name of the bottle.
I cracked it open recently and wow. You've heard of a sherry monster. This was a port monster, if such a thing exists. It was amazing - powerful and with a very wine-y finish.
Keep on waffling!

Hi All,
do you find it hard to get decent recommendations on whisky? the reps in the stores and airports tend to be sales orientated as opposed to customer needs
any thoughts?

I too have acquired a couple of bottles of Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. It remains to be seen if batch two holds a candle to batch one. Also found a Gooderham and Worts release (a nod to the Toronto Distillery District) and the above noted Breizh Blended Whisky from Breton. It looked lonely on the shelf in a Thunder Bay LCBO.

Laphroaig 15 and another Gooderham and Worts, regretfully the same bottle I picked up last time, so now I have two.
Went to a tasting last night, tried the Northern Harvest and quite frankly, with all due respect, don't waste your money on it. It's a decent Rye but not one of the best in the World. And I own two of it!

Re: What is your most recent (whisky) purchase.
I ordered from TWE for the first time in a while to get those bottles unavailable on this side of the pond. The USD-GBP conversion rate is better and the customs charges have largely gone away. Picked up:
Paul John Edited
Spirit of Hven Tycho's Star
Nikka Pure Malt Black
Nikka from the Barrel

Have I read that correct 13 dollars for 1.75 litres??
If it is it is one of the best deals I have ever heard of?
