I was on holidays, coming through Bulgaria into Turkey about 3 weeks ago. At the border crossing, the Bulgarian officer scanned my passport, looked at the computer, hit some keys and as he returned my passport, smiled and said in perfect English: "Happy Birthday, have a nice day!"
That's the kind of officer I want on the border! It made my day.
Finished off at the Grand Tarabyato Hotel in Istanbul, on our 10th floor balcony overlooking the Bosphorus, with champagne and a chocolate raspberry torte at 10:30 at night. This was courtesy of the wonderful Customer manager on duty. Heck of a way to celebrate my 58th.
(I wonder where many of the originals have gone to?)

I did, I truly did.
It started with a morning breakfast at Bowmore Cottages, overlooking Loch Indaal. Bunnahabhain was the first stop with a taste that led to a purchase of the 11 y.o. Rhubha A' Mhail, then Caol Ila ('nuff said there), followed by a spectacular tasting and tour at Kilchoman (and a purchase of a 10th anniversary bottle gift, shirt and 10th anniv. hat). Finished up at Bowmore for the full blown tour, drams and purchase of an exceptional Springtide, after a sample to die for.
Musky had a topper of a birthday.
