In The X-Files episode Avatar, Skinner reaches for a bottle of J&B after having been framed for murdering a prostitute (Amanda Tapping, pre-Stargate fame).

It looks like a bottle of Speyburn, but the label actually says Clyburn 15. Difficult to see without freezeframe.

I watched a recent movie named Knowing with Nicolas Cage. In the movie, Cage was drinking which I believe is whisky and he drank a lot of it in the movie. The bottle was prominently displayed as Samuel Coleburn. I googled and I found a whisky named Colburn but also sometimes referred to as Coleburn. But have'nt found one with the exact name Samuel Colburn. Anybody have any idea?

Death by Whiskey! (In a movie)

Postby Pure Pot Head » Thu Aug 06, 2009 7:34 pm

Hi there, I stumbled across you're post with some interest as I too enjoy brand watching! Don't know if you saw Charlie wilson's War but there was Chivas all over it, almost to the point of ridiculousness, clearly the brand owner had paid for it. I tend to zone in on Irish Whiskies more as sightings are more rare, mainly Jameson. Some good examples are Jameson in State of Play with Russell Crowe where he offers the felame lead a glass of 'Irish wine' which is what Peter the Great used to call it, Milk with Sean Penn, Righteous Kill with AL PAcino, De Niro and 50 cent, most episodes of the Wire with The Glenlivet making an honourary appearance, most episodes of Madmen. Colin Farell orders a bottle of Jameson for his girlfriend in Phone Booth and on a note calls it some '"Some Irish Stew." Jack Nicolson orders a Jameson and Soda 'wash back' in 'As Good as it Gets." addressing the bartender with the imortal line, 'here I am talking to a moron selling the last legally available drug." Two soldiers share a bottle of Jameson in GI Jane. If you look at the scene in Trading Places where the two old guys make the deal, check out the back of the magazine one is reading, it's an old Jameson advert.
My favourite has to 'On The Waterfront," that old Oscar winning movie with Marlon Brando where they're unloading a shipment of Jameson (with the old boxes featuring the barrelman logo) from a ship. A pallet falls on one of the guys, possibly the only scene of death by whiskey in a movie!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gdgEp7u ... re=related

Later there is an intense argument in a workmans hut with a bottle of Paddy of all things sitting in the middle of the table.
If anyone else out there knows of other appearances by Jameson or other Irish whiskies I'd love to hear about them.

Cheers

Whenever there was drinking to be done in Dario Argento's "Bird With The Crystal Plumage", which I watched on DVD last night, a bottle of J&B was prominently on display.

I was watching The Client yesterday and I am sure the guy who kills himself in the beginning of the movie is drinking Johnnie Walker Black.

Just had my Ardbeg committee minutes arrive.

Seems Ardbeg Ten Years Old was in an episode of 'Spooks'.

That's right, it appeared in two episodes in the last series (the seventh).

End of episode 4 - Harry shares a drink with Connie in his office.
End of episode 6 - Harry pours himself a dram at home as he settles down to read the file on the traitor.

Love Spooks, not so fussed on Ardbeg 10, though this might be a hanging offence around here(later not the former).

Noticed a bottle of J&B in Abslutely Fabulous. Edina's mother tried to force one onto one of her ex-husbands.

Curious, in the latest Christmas Episode of the office, Michael makes a drink called "One of everything" which is supposed to contain scotch, but I couldn't make out any scotch bottles on the table, I thought I might have had a glimpse of Dewars, but later I thought it was some sort of no tequila. Wondering if anyone had the chance to see it?

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but the Bird Cage was on the other day and they were pounding the Glenlivit 12 during the dinner scene.

In the 'New Tricks' episode 'A Face For Radio', Brian (Alun Armstrong) goes to Jack's (James Bolam) house, discovers a bottle of Talisker 10 and takes the bottle outside to drink it. Then changes his mind.

The only one I can remember is in one of my all time favorite movies...

Donald Sutherland clutching a Cragganmore 12 in "A Time To Kill".

Was watching the new show Community on NBC last night and Chevy Chase's character pulled out a bottle of scotch from his bag for some inspiration for a Spanish project. I couldn't figure out what it was, though, and it was driving me crazy. Anyone catch it?

Saw that also, but its baffling me also, but I did make out Glen... and it was in the shape of a glenlivet bottle, so perhaps the Nadurra, though I have yet to see a bottle of the naddura so still not sure. Plus Glen and a bottle shape like that could probably be at least 30 different whisky's. But a show like that probably has some sort of budget so I'm voting for some sort of glenlivet based on the shape of the bottle and the word glen.

While Not a single malt in the movie wedding crashers at the dinner scene, there is a bottle of what I believe is Johnny Walker, I believe green but as its in the background out of focus it might be blue...

Watching Infamous, the 'other' movie(and to my mind superior to the Phillip Seymore Hoffman version) about the story of Truman Capotes writing of In Cold Blood. Capote drinks J&B.

Went to see that new Bruce Willis movie, 'Surrogates' last weekend and at one point he opens up what I think was a fridge interestingly and takes out a bottle of...cue drum roll...Jameson.

Well, turns out the "Trinity Killer" in the newest series of Dexter seems to fancy Glenfiddich for a toast.

Watched an ep of Mash last night where Hawkeye and Hotlips are stuck in the middle of bombing together. Hawkeye to relieve the tension pulls out a bottle of Japanese "Scotch" as he calls it and offers some to Hotlips. She accepts and replies, 'how bad can it be'.

I saw The Men Who Stare at Goats today, it has a scene with George Clooney and Ewan McGregor characters drinking some Glenfiddich 12 in a hotel room in Kuwait.

In the latest episode of the t.v. show Parks and Recreation, a guy turned to a bottle of 20 yo North Port to ease the pain of getting shot in the head with a shotgun.

In the first episode of the new thriller Paradox that ended a short while ago, Tamzin Outhwaite shared a dram of what looked like Grants with one of the other characters.
