From the rich amber colour to the handsome wooden presentation case, the dram oozes class and masculinity. It is one of the biggest selling malts produced by the boutique distillery run by Harvey’s of Edinburgh.
John Harvey McDonough, director of Harvey’s of Edinburgh, says SPEY Chairman’s Choice holds a special connection to his own father and family. He explains, “The release comes from a tradition started in the late 1700s by John and Robert Harvey who founded the company.
“Every year on Christmas Day the chairman of the company would choose the finest casks of whisky to share with his family. It is a tradition that we continue to uphold and my father, John, chooses whisky from the very best casks in our warehouse.
“It is a very limited bottling with only a very small amount released each year, but it has grown to be one of the best-selling bottles in our range of hand-crafted malts produced using time-honoured traditional techniques.”
At 40% ABV, SPEY Chairman’s Choice has a refreshing flower and fruit fragrance with a hint of vanilla. The whisky is matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, giving the dram a unique richness full of character.
With a distinct taste of dried fruit, it has a soft, nutty flavour and a creamy finish, while the aftertaste is of mild spice and soft dried fruit with a woody sweetness. The stunning bottle is encased within a dark wooden presentation case.
With an RRP in the region of £60, SPEY Chairman’s Choice is available from a range of retailers. Details of stockists and there to buy are available at http://www.speysidedistillery.co.uk
