The Laddie's a Flirt!

Postby Sally Toms » Thu Sep 02, 2004 11:27 am

Just as a new novel aimed at women argues the case for a pink whisky (see cover story page 24-25) what should come along but a new whisky from Bruichladdich – and it’s decidedly pink. Called Flirtation, it is at the normal strength of the distillery’s products – 46% – and will go on sale in September.

What can I say but: "Euch!"

(And that's why the lady is a tramp.)

Seriously?

Pink Laddie?

Are you sure Jim McEwan's not pulling your leg?

No, it's for real. A 20 y.o. finished in Mordevre casks for a few months. I haven't seen it myself yet so can't comment on level of pinkness.

Cheers, Lex

If I drink too much of it, will I see amber elephants?

Just wondered...

I thought someone was pulling my leg with this :o , it says it is to encourage more woman to drink whisky , someone hasn't done much research lately as there are definitely a lot more at events now (SMWS tastings / whisky fringe etc) , heck even my missus is getting a taste for it !
This finishing lark is getting well silly .......

Maybe we should start a campaign for real whisky ......

The Flirtation can now be bought through Laddies wehshop. They've also published a picture of it:

First of all good for the Bruichladdich for making the most of a finish as did Springbank awhile ago with its green whisky finished in a rum cask.

Second, good for them for focusing on women, the more whisky sales made by every distillery means our favourite drams will SURVIVE. Does anybody want their favourite malt to go the way of Port Ellen for example? Strong sales would have prevented this. Besides women are great fans of scotch and they have an much more better sense of smell than most men AND they can translate those smells into words.

Third, finishes are a tiny fraction of all the malts produced, it's not the end of the world. Thank God somebody has the guts to do a little experimentation.

Fourth, I'd like to try it.

And finally as the demands increase on traditional sources of cask and the prices rise distillers will be forced to look for new types of cask as the Irish are doing by going back to Sicily after a 90 year absence.

This must be a trend - first Flirtation, then Whisky Mag features, and now this!

In the future, whisky drinkers will paint the town pink :?

The folks at Bruichladdich are firebranded iconoclasts in the pursuit of doing what they damn well please. Thank god someone out there has some courage to move when and where they want. Have tasted the malt out of the cask and quite interesting (I am color blind so pink is not of interest). That being said, I am still longing to be kissed again by the beauty of the 20 yo first edition. Slainthe!

I guess one man's finish is another woman's start! :D
