Doig auction raises funds for pagoda memorial

Postby Kate » Thu Jun 03, 2004 1:12 pm

More than £7,500 has been raised for the Charles Doig Memorial Collection after an auction at McTear’s, says organiser Richard Paterson.
The money was raised by auctioning bottles donated by distilleries throughout Scotland. Arrangements will now be made to erect a memorial in the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre, Edinburgh. The Doig Pagoda Head Memorial was specially designed by Highland Spirit Ltd, Elgin – a lasting tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest unsung heroes.
Richard Paterson said: ”I am truly delighted with the outcome of this auction and I can only thank the Scotch whisky industry for their most generous contribution. If Charles Doig was alive today I am sure he would be immensely proud of this recognition.”
