Arran anniversary

Postby Rob Allanson » Wed Jun 02, 2010 2:57 pm

June 29th will mark the 15th anniversary of award-winning single malt Scotch whisky producer the Isle of Arran Distillery.

To celebrate, the distillery will be launching a special bottling at their Open Day held on 3rd July within their grounds in the village of Lochranza on the north-west tip of Arran.
The special bottling, produced from three ex-Bourbon barrels from 1995 hand-selected by Arran's Master Distiller James MacTaggart, will be presented in commemorative packaging and sold exclusively at the distillery's visitor centre.

Isle of Arran Whisky Distiller James MacTaggart said: "It has been a great 15 years at, what we believe, is a perfect location which has allowed me to create award-winning whiskies.
"To commemorate the anniversary, I wanted to use some of our most mature stock resulting in a whisky with a deep, golden colour and wonderful aromas of baked apples and crème brûlee.

"This will be a limited edition of just 600 bottles so we expect them to be sold out very quickly!"

The event will be a showcase for Arran's delicacies with food and drink producers from across the island offering their wares on the day. These include Taste of Arran and the Arran Brewery - who have brewed a special ale for the Open Day which has been matured in a former Isle of Arran Distillery whisky cask.

Whisky writer Dave Broom will also be present to host a masterclass giving malt whisky aficionados the opportunity to sample six samples drawn straight from casks maturing at the distillery.

In true Scottish style, the day will finish with a traditional Scottish 'ceilidh' in Lochranza Village Hall with music by the renowned Skerryvore.
