This is interesting. I wonder what the criteria were for chosign the whiskies to taste in the first place. I find it hard to believe Midleton VR was tasted and didn't make it onto the list of Irish. The cask strength Connemara wouuld also be a banker, I would have thought.

Apart from typing out the list of whiskys from edition 30, what was the purpose of the message?

Are you trying to tell us the best are expensive ?

If you are, your point is valid, but if you want a ferrari, you need to pay ferrari prices, n'est pas Rodney ??

I think he was just telling us what is on the list. If you read his other postings, you'll see his is asking what whiskies to buy so I doubt he is trying to point out high prices are best.

Also, while that list contains some very expensive whiskies it also contains some very reasonable ones like Cragganmore 12yo, Glen Garioch 10yo, Auchentoshan 10yo and Black Bottle 10yo blend. Even the older ones need not be terribly expensive like Glengoyne 17yo, Highland Park 18yo and The Glenlivet 18yo, which have even more reasonable 10-12yo versions available which are still very good. All the Irish whiskies listed are quite reasonable (with the exception of Bushmills 16yo but which is still very reasonable for a 16yo).

The list is interesting as a reference but for a more useful list it would be really nice if the malts where also listed in price categories (or at the very least with an estimated cost info attached). As a consumer I know I would appreciate it when some prices on malts today are simply outrageous and out of reach for most of us.

Yes. It would be nice if there were "best whisky people can actually get" and "best whisky people can actually afford" categories.

Rather than a review which gives the best speyside to 39 year old cask strength Glen Wet which is available only from Wee Shuggies shop in Ardnamurchan and sold only to those from Brazil who are fluent in Finnish.

Quite frankly when you get to these categories, you can write anything you like and no one will be able to contradict you.

Just was trying to be nice and provide a quick list that is defined in the Whiskey Mag. Mostly, it was FYI post and part educational for me what the pros think what is good for what is provided to them to drink.
