Now I know our friend Mr Symington (he of Signatory fame)sells the 21yo Brora at £35/£40ish, I was prepared to spend around £80 for such a delightful dram ( especially as the 20yo and 25yo Talisker special bottlings were coming in at £79 and £100 respectively and I expected to pay a slight premium as it is a famous distillery); but when the aforemention supplier said it was One Hundred and Eighty Five of your English finest, well, you could blow me down.
Whisky isn't cheap. I know that! Spending on average £500 a year on what is fermented boiled up barley juice gives me a lot of pleasure. That £500 gets me around 10 to 15 bottles a year, but to blow nearly half on a distillery that nobody knows, no matter how good the dram, is rather extracting the p*!$.
