Broken Wax

Postby Salmon2 » Thu Feb 18, 2016 10:26 am

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post.

I was given a bottle of Karuizawa Editors Choice 15 years for Christmas a few years ago.

It has risen in value significantly but the wax seal is in very bad shape.

I left it in the garage during a cold spell and the wax has cracked badly with a large chip coming away. You can see clearly that the bottle hasn't been opened but if it gets any worse the seal will have not cover the cork anymore.

I want to get it repaired so it doesn't become worthless.

Any advice? Ideally I would get it repaired by a top company and get a letter to prove it.

Cheers,

Mark

If you're wondering whether it will go bad, I would say no.

If you're worried about it's collector's value, then I'd say you can't get it fixed because then it would look like a forgery, contentswise. You'd be better off leaving it cracked, but it still would have depleted in value.

I have been advised by a whisky auction house that they have recently sold 2 other bottles from this distillery with the same issue. The bottles still sold well however.

ON that basis I am less worried than before.

Cheers,
