Ardbeg Alligator

Postby Porro » Wed Jan 14, 2015 2:29 am

I'm kind of crazy about this release. When I first tasted it, I drove about 120 miles (each way) and hit every store that had some. Some had a one bottle limit, some two. I just had the last drops of this favorite, I'm down to six bottles.

I love Talisker Storm this year. Same thing, some day, there will be no more.

What would anyone here suggest is the closest to either of these. I love the smoky taste/aroma, flavor... and wonder if there's something else on the market that's close?

Highland Park 12 or Ardbeg 10 are my old reliable favorites. So I believe this should tell you what I like best. I've tried some others that were supposed to be heavily peated or smoky and salty, "island", none compare to the Alligator or Storm. And for smooth rich flavor, nothing much compares to Ardbeg, Highland Park or any Talisker.

What can someone recommend? I keep buying new makers with claims, or these attributes, and I'm often disappointed.

Seems a logical route to me as well. The annual release natural cask strength 12-year old Lagavulin always satisfies my taste buds.
