2012 Distillers Edition Collection as an Investment

Postby ksteinmuller » Tue May 20, 2014 10:26 am

I have an opportunity to pick up a full set of 9 Diageo Distiller's Editions (Glenkinchie, Lagavulin, Cragganmore, Oban, Talisker, Dalwhinnie, Caol Ila, Clynelish, Royal Lochnagar) bottled in 2012 for a pretty good price (well for us expats in China anyway).

I don't know much about whisky investing, and I know that the DE bottles are not particularly rare or limited, but what would be the value in getting a complete set of them for one particular year?

Does anybody have any advice in collecting Distiller's Editions?

I am unsure of the Chinese market,

But here is Australia you would receive some incremental value for a full set, as we do not have easy access to the full range of Distillers Edition. That Said, you would be looking for a very specialist kind of buyer, either collector or somebody who enjoys each of the brands on their own merit. In my experience, these people are hard to come by.

My estimate for Oz would be around a 30% - 40% profit (based on Australian retail pricing) increase by having the full set. So approx 300-350 per unit in $AUD

Hope this helps
