A whisky industry in Newfoundland: logical?

Postby Dramsman » Sun Sep 09, 2012 6:05 pm

Is there a tradition of single-malt type whisky production in Newfoundland? I'm not aware of any distilleries there today.

However, when you consider the Scots-Irish heritage and even the climate of Newfoundland, it would appear to be a logical fit. In some places, even the landscape seems visually similar to parts of Scotland.

One would think that local production of quality single malts might even prove, over time, to be a lucrative export-oriented industry for the island.

I'd appreciate your ideas about this.
