The Speyside 25 Years Old - Limited Edition

Postby chanpatrickhs » Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:03 am

I have a bottle, that says that "The Speyside 25 Years Old - Limited Edition". My mum bought it, roughly 20 years ago... I researched but could not find anything. I even emailed "The Speyside Distillery Company" but they have not replied.
I just want to know if this bottle is genuine, and if it is worth anything in case it is real.
I am no expert in whiskies...

Here are some pictures:

If you need more information about this bottle, or more pictures, just let me know!

Thanks in advance guys,

Patrick~

What really intriguing is that I cannot find ANY info at all. I tried everything... It is just lying there, so I thought of a whisky forum, someone must know something about it. Thanks though! :)

It seems to have "Speyside Distillery" embossed onto the glass, and refers to The Speyside Distillery Company on the lower label. I can't help btw, except in drinking it...

If i was to guess, it was bottled by them but it's the product of another distillery.

I could be mistaken, of course. But if memory serves me well, this was an upscale blended whisky bottled by the company concerned, and not a malt whisky from a single distillery. I also seem to recall that a friend of mine was gifted one some time ago.

No, in fact I'm not mistaken!

I found an old catelogue from my local whisky specialist outlet dating back to the spring of 1999 and, sure enough, there are listings for 3 such whiskies issues by the Speyside Distillery Co... a 21YO, a 25YO and a 30YO. respective prices were CDN$122.75, CDN$177.25 (for the 25YO) and CDN$343.

There you go.

The Speyside 25 is my favourite whisky! :) It's smooth, warm and leaves a nice long lingering taste in your mouth. Well worth a try. Your mum did an excellent buy.

About 15 years ago, I managed to buy one at Royal Mile Whiskies in Edinburgh. Can't tell whether they still sell them.

However, they're still for sale in Holland at De Koning whisky shop (http://www.whiskykoning.nl/), priced at €198.

I would drink this whisky, not keep it as an investment.

Enjoy!

Best regards,

Alex Toth.
