What is a fair price for Balvenie Vintage cask ?

Postby desouza » Fri Oct 16, 2009 3:17 am

I have an opportunity to purchase a Balvenie Vintage Cask 1966
bottled in 1997 at 45.5%ABV Cask 6425 - was wondering what would be a fair price? I know that the
1967 vintage cask sells for around 550 pounds sterling($900)
Can someone help? Thanks in anticipation.

Same price, but you might try to bargain for 10-20% discount.

Depends how much you want the bottle. GBP400 sounds fair but if you want it you could pay a little more!

A bit late on this but the last few on the US ebay have been in the $850-$910 range. Currently Christies has one up for auction in New York with and estimated $1500 price.
There are more 1966VC than any other by far and they came in three different packages. Tube with black hand lettering, tube with gold hand lettering and wood box with black hand lettering. Expect to pay more for a box version.

Here are all the 1966 releases:

Balvenie 31yo 1966-1997 Vintage Cask (45.5%, Cask # 1896, 204b)
Balvenie 31yo 1966-1997 Vintage Cask (45.5%, Cask # 1898, 204b)
Balvenie 31yo 1966-1997 Vintage Cask (45.5%, Cask # 1899, 192b)
Balvenie 31yo 1966-1997 Vintage Cask (45.5%, Cask # 1904, 156b)
Balvenie 31yo 1966-1997 Vintage Cask (45.5%, Cask # 1906, 216b)
Balvenie 31yo 1966-1997 Vintage Cask (45.5%, Cask # 1907, 132b)
Balvenie 32yo 1966-1998 Vintage Cask (42.1%, Cask # 6432, 264b)
Balvenie 32yo 1966-1998 Vintage Cask (42.6%, Cask # 6434, 270b)

I had noticed you replied back to AVB regarding a full list of all Balevenie Vintage 1966 along with there Cask # but I did not see the bottle I have had for many years on that list and wanted to know if you could help me understand more about the bottle I have.
The bottle I own is in a wooden box with hand written coligraphy lettering. It's a bottle of Balvenie Vintage 1966, the label says "Aged For Over 30 Years" and by the dates it should make it a 31 year old, it was distilled in the barrel on Valentine's Day February 14, 1966 Cask #1891 Bottle 19 of 216 which had layed undisterbed until it was bottled on November 14 1997.
I have been trying to research this bottle all over the Internet and have still not been able to find a bottle that bares the same label or Cask # as mine does that's apart of the wooden box edition. Could you tell me if the list you showed included the wooden box series or not and if so would Cask #1891 which I have be included on that list as one of the first Casks made?
I myself had contacted AVB a few years back to let him know about the bottle I own and he added it to the list of Balvenie1966 vintages that he's made on whisymagizine.com. That list now shows the Cask #1891 which I own to be the oldest Cask for the 1966 collection except for I believe it may not of been arranged in the correct order because it's actually a 31 year old and not a 30 year old as its now listed.
I am including some pictures for you review and would truly appreciate any kind of information you could give help me with about this bottle I own and if not if you could please forward this info to anyone you may know that could help me shed some light to understand better about the rarity of the bottle I have. I would like to thank you in advance for any kind of help you could share with me.

Sincerely,
