I think the slight bitterness on the finish you are detecting can be attributed to several different things, not necessarily excessive use of e150. I find Pulteney to vary slightly from batch to batch (a good barometer of that is the famous 'saltiness' which I sometimes find there and sometimes don't).
With regard to Pulteney 12 vs 17, I love the 12 but am probably the biggest fan of the 17 in the world. I think it's a true highlight of the range, I even prefer it to the 30yo.
Currently around 60 closed and 40-50 open I think, though I have been unsuccessfully trying to reduce the open bottles down to a couple of dozen over the past year or so...
...y'know Nick, sometimes I just marvel at you and other times I despise your good fortune.
Closed bottles are still around the 66% mark of the collection.
All my bottles are open (over 150). there are more then 50 closed bottles , but they are doubles.
I use Argon gas to make sure there is no oxidation in the open bottles.

Haven't opened my 17YO OP as yet, but have enjoyed the 12YO tremendously (just so bloody drinkable!).
Closed bottles... 77 as of today. I'm concentrating on working on what's already had the cork popped more of late.

Just what was that address again?
Just did a quick count of the inventory...
75 sealed so that means over 100 opened. I thought it was the other way 'round!
Damn! Maybe I'm not behind in my drinking...
I'm hosting a whisky tasting party next month (On St Georges day, and kicking off with my St Georges Distillery Chapter 9 no less!), and will probably be opening 5 or 6 of these bottles then. All in a good cause though

Sean yours may as well come already opened!
Up to my all time record of 17. I'm a serious collector now!

Jeezes, MARS. If you need any help getting this number down let me know. I can be there within 1 hour.
We can arrange a tasting session one day!
They are some members of the forum who badly want I come to brussels with a few bottles. Don't have much time for the moment but if you are interested I will send you an e-mail.
PS : I don't have many peated single malt and only 2 ardbeg. (and I can't open the bottles of glendronach I don't have twice as I collect them)
