how to date a bottle

Postby whishkeyjack » Tue Dec 03, 2013 2:48 pm

We found an old bottle of Mcguinness Cherry Whiskey in a cupboard, that has been there for over 25 years. It has no date on it, just lots of numbers and there any way of finding out how old this bottle is, and is it any good to drink?

If the filling level is okay, then the content should not have been to much affected.
To date a bottle, you might ask whisky connoisseurs, look into old books and whisky auctions.
You can also guess the period based on the bottle shape, companies names and closure system (e.g., screw cap)
