Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
I think it's subjective, I've used a few. I last used whisky auctions edinburgh, free collection, it's convenient not having to travel. I supposed it depends where you live.
Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
As a seller look for the lowest cost and the widest audience...that's what I am doing...i've used a few and to be honest more choice can only be a good thing...

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
Hi everyone,
I don't claim to run the best Whisky auction site out there, but we are new and will certainly try hard to strive for that title in the coming months. We're based just outside Edinburgh in Dunfemline, Scotland and run a monthly auction in much the same format as a lot of you will be familiar with. We have a little over 230 lots in the first auction with a mixture of the very old and new bottles.
I'd love for you to check us out (we're live now) at http://www.just-whisky.co.uk
Our first auction runs until the Sunday 15th December at 8pm GMT.
Regards,
GrahamC.

I have used whiskyauctioneer to make a purchase.
Apart from minor teething problem with payment it was a good experience.
No qualms about using again.

Many thanks Scottie, those teething problems have been worked out.
Glad you enjoyed using the website we've almost 300 bottles on offer this month

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
Regarding Whisky Auctioneer, is it just me or is there site really bad to download. I use SWA, On line Whisky Auctions, Whisky auction .com and they download fine and quckly.
Just whisky auction is more problematic but reasonable.
Whisky Auctioneer is terrible, it will not download, takes ages, if you click on a particular bottle to look at another one comes up and if you click on something in general it does nothing. To be frank for me it is a waste of time but I am trying to get on with it.
I raise this beacause my computer is not particularly new but why do I have a massive problem with this particular site. I have no real issues with any other sites.
I now can only use whisky auctioneer from a tablet.
Just wondered if the site moderators have any suggestions or has anyone else (on an older computer) had the same issue?????

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback and the answer may be quite straightforward.
We developed our website to be Responsive Web Design, which is a web-design method that provides a universal viewing experience on tablet, mobile phone, computer, laptop etc.
The idea is to provide a website that is easy to navigate, read and with minimal re-sizing of images and so forth.
I believe websites such as Whisky Online and SWA do not use this method, while Just-whisky I believe has also chosen to, this may be as it is quite a recent approach to web design as tablets, phones are becoming increasingly popular for browsing the internet.
The compromise to this method as you point out is that various 'older' versions of browsers/operating systems don't respond well to these websites, particularly Internet Explorer.
If you would be kind enough to PM what browser you are using I would be happy to have a look and in addition the links which have caused you difficulty.

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
I have now bought and sold on Whiskyauctioneer, Whisky-onlineauctions and SWA.
Generally they have all been pretty good to deal with.
Only complaint I would mention is communication is poor at SWA. Sometimes takes days to reply to emails or not at all. Not very professional.
All three despatch promptly and items are very well packed.

I would definitely avoid whisky-onlineauctions.com. Incredibly rude customer service + so inefficient. All in all just a terrible experience

Ya, I had a bad experience with them many year ago, near went back
Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
I have now bought from them all now. I think all are good. As a seller, you pay less commission with whisky auctioneer and just whisky...
I find whisky auctioneer very good to deal with. I have had a good experience with SWA too.

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
I have beyond extensive experience with all auction houses
Whisky online auctions customer service leaves much to be desired, it is by far the worst from the buyer perspective, to the extent that it clearly effects buyer behavior. I would pay more for the same bottle from SWA
Totally different experience at scotch whisky auctions, whisky auctioneer or Just-whisky.
Would recommend SWA or whiakyauctioneer slightly over just whisky.

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
From a seller's perspective, Scotch Whisky Auctions used to be the best. Not so now sadly.
Firstly, their selling commission is much higher than others.
Secondly, the sheer volumes of the self-same bottling mean that buyers don't get into bidding wars over a single lot. Rather, they've sometimes ten or fifteen alternatives to choose from.

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
I've been using https://whisky.auction, brand new but all the questions I've asked were answered promptly and politely. It's the first auction at the moment, which usually means very good deals for buyers (until the word gets around!)
Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
I much prefer whiskyauctioneer and justwhisky.
Very logical reasons why, first rate customer service, low commission, no registration fee (£5 just to register....come on guys why would you pay this!) and they offer a great personal service.
The new whisky.auction I am holding my breath on - its part of the thewhiskyexchange and I wondering how they are approaching it - i hope they don't just sell the stuff they just imported for example - quite expensive to register, expensive to buy from (high commission rates) and they did go down at the end of the auction (although handled it much better than the likes of SWA). I did see some high and some low prices...
For me, all of the auction sites get very similar prices, the hard-core users will use all of them and it comes down to one simple thing - which is the best to sell with and which is the cheapest to buy from - for me I have had the best experiences from whiskyauctioneer - 5% sellers commission and 10% buyers (same as just-whisky). whisky.auction is 10% sellers and 15% buyers for example, SWA is 10% to buyers and sellers, whiskyonlineauction is 10% sellers an 15% buyers I think...Don't even get me started on Bonhams!!!!
It's also worth noting that some small local auction houses who have online bidding sometimes get some great lots. The only issue here is the buyer commission is usually very high to account for the auction house commission and the online-bid commission on top.

Re: best whisky auction site in united kingdom
Hi guys,
Whisky Hammer is a new online whisky auction service, going live in early 2016, which promises to offer a premium and personalised customer service in return for very competitive commission rates.
We have built the business structure in a manner that ensures an improved service is offered from day 1 - which has already taken into account all of the comments that have been made above.
I wanted to flag that Whisky Hammer will be offering 0% seller commission when it launches early in 2016.
If you would like to be kept upto date, you can register your interest now at http://www.whiskyhammer.co.uk and across the various social media platforms.

Regarding Whisky.Auction: I must say I am very disappointed at their greed. They charge 10% for sellers and 15% for buyers. For a new site, I cannot forgive that and will not be using them again...or Whisky Exchange for that matter. Rip-off merchants.
Will be much more happy to take my chances with a new site like Whisky Hammer that charges 0% seller commission that the shameless greed displayed by Whisky.Auction.

I have used all the various auctions over the past few years and I have to say as far as speed of shipping, variety of bottles on offer each month and functionality of the site https://www.whisky-onlineauctions.com is by far the best. I pay a little more for the shipping but the quality of the packaging and speed of delivery make it worthwhile from my perspective.

How about http://www.whiskyrama.com? Anybody tried this before?

The problem with selling with WOA is that for some bottles their prices have suffered since they got greedy and decided to charge 15% for buyers.
This increase has definitely affected the prices of some bottles achieved so the seller gets less.
When you bear in mind that Whisky Auctioneer, Just Whisky Auction and SWA only charge 10% for buyers and Whisky Auctioneer only 5% commission for sellers and I believe Just whisky auction 6% for sellers Whisky on line auctions is much less attractive.
I also think they over estimate weights of lots that affects the price of postage, only by a few pounds but it is all relative.
The functionality of their site is good but there is in no way enough information about individual bottles for my liking.
WOA is still a decent auction site but it is lagging behind now and has been overtaken by some of the newer ones.
It is all down to charging too much in fees for me, but that is just a personal opinion
