Rommel Whisky - what worth?

Postby kiltrock68 » Thu Dec 16, 2004 1:49 pm

Can anyone tell me about the worth of a bottle of so called
"Rommel" Whisky.

That bottles were captured by General Rommel and his Afrika-Korps while the campaign in the western desert against the british 8th Army between 1941-43 in WWII.

Later brought to Italy, re-caprtured by the allies while the campaign in italy 1943-45. Sold in Italy in the late fifties.

A friend of mine hold that bottle since the early sixties.

Label of the bottle:

Extra special old

Special Brand
Finely Matured
Old Scotch Whisky

Deluxe (?) Ltd.
Old Distillery

Thanks for your help! :D

A bottle of this sold on ebay earlier this year and if I remember correctly the selling price was about $45.

I've seen similar prices ($40-60) for these bottles.

Hi kiltrock68,

In any case, tell your friend not to open the bottle.

I was offered a nip once, but well.... I guess contaminated water would taste the same.

To have such a bottle for tasting, together with all the stories about it was great fun, but the whisky is not to be taken seriously.

Rudy.
