wasking

An act of "waking up" that involves a liquid, preferably water.

I'd be happy with whisky!

Just a warning to anyone buying Supernovas on ebay. The 'general' non-committee release of Supernova has already arrived in some countries and is appearing on ebay, so check the pics carefully before bidding...
I only mention it because it looks like someone's about to pay £160 for what will be an £80 bottle - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ardbeg-Supernova-Stellar-Release100-PPM58-9OA_W0QQitemZ300306527569QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpirituosen?hash=item300306527569&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Limited release, previously discussed with the ardbeg committee.

And another one just popped up. With a buy now price of 109 pounds

I heard that 2700 bottles of the Supernova will be released in Sweden this summer. Does anybody know how many bottles that will be released in total?

So I take it by the comments on the board the Supernova general release will go on sale for the same price as the Octomore....£79.99.

Cheers

Here in germany it's on sale for 79.90 Euro already, so maybe it'll be even a little less than 80 GBP.

Yes indeedy. The bottles being sold with boxes on ebay are some of the first out, but I understand this is going to be on general release like Blasda, ANB etc. It's not limited in any sense other than one day they'll stop selling it!

There will be 3,000 cases released in total at the end of April, priced around £80 from the distillery, so 18,000 bottles.

Does anyone know how this compares to the Renaissance in terms of bottles released?

Cheers

I certainly want to try it. Not sure if I will buy some, because I've recently opened my Octomore and I guess they're the same kind of dram.

I opened my Supernova over the weekend and tried it on for size. I found it to be quite intense with, at first, a slow burning peat that lasted throughout a very long finish.

I also tried the Octomore over the weekend and found it quite hot right off the bat, probably b/c it is about 63% abv. This is indeed a fiery whisky!

Although I enjoyed them both, I found the Supernova a superior product, much more balanced. This may be due to the difference is age 5 yrs (Octo) versus 10 yrs (Nova) I think. Plus the price difference is substantial $125 USD (Nova) versus $225 USD (Octo).

Thank you bear.

They will be priced quite low here in Sweden.
(45 GBP has been indicated)
However, they won't be released until the 1st of June.

I do think that the price is wrong. I doubt it that it will be sold for 30 GBP less than UK. I think the one who sent out the price made a typing error. But we can hope for it to be that low!

My friends and I tried the stuff a little bit ago. It's good, but I wasn't blown away, especially considering the price. It is not the same thing as uigedal. It's younger and, if i'm not mistaken, non of it was in sherry casks.

It has a rich oily texture. It's extremely heavy on the peat notes of rubber tar and ash, but it doesn't come across as unbalanced. It's young so it doesn't have much depth or fizz. It's a good deal simpler than the standard 10 yo. The satisfying smokiness of the finish won't surprise (we're talking about a good heavily peated drink, after all), but it's endurance will. It sort of sets up shop on your palate and refuses to leave. If your planning to drink this with any other decent whiskies, make sure you drink it last.

It's not total ripoff. If you like big peat and you have the cash, you probably won't be disappointed. Still, I'd rather have some cask strength laphroaig or, if I can get a hold of another bottle, some more of that Peat Monster Reserve Magnum that Compass Box put out a bit ago.

I agree that the price indication doesn't seem realistic.

However:
Ardbeg Supernova will be sold at the Swedish store "Systembolaget", which is government controlled and the only one allowed selling alcohol in Sweden. The information regarding the price was given at a Swedish forum a few days ago (Whiskyforum).

Systembolaget has submitted a price of 491 SEK for the 2700 bottles to be released the 1st of June.

I didn't make a typing error with the price, but as Bunkermania said, Systembolaget might have done an error when they submitted the price a few days ago.

The price has been set to 491 SEK, which is equal to 39.2 GBP or 58.3 USD

I think a few people will be asking some serious questions of LVMH , including me , if they are selling a release effectively half price in one country.......

Any Ardbeg insiders willing to share the UK pricing details?

It's on TWE's site for £73.99 incl. VAT and limited to one bottle per customer.

It's been on the site for a couple of days.

TWE also have Still Young at, I think £45, which is still available at the Distillery on-line shop for £30...Could be TWE are upping the price of their own accord. When I placed an order in March I asked for a reserved bottle of Supernova to collect with the rest of the order at the festival in May and was told they didn't know what price it would be...

I wouldn't be surprised if they will realise that the price has been set to low and that they will adjust it prior to the release in June. Let's see. I will keep you posted.

For all those who sit on the beloved committe bottling Ardbeg Supernova. Keep it. I don't care, and I will never buy it.

For all those who try to get the more (?) standard version: taste it. It is, according to me, one of the best Ardbegs (I am not talking about the exaggerated prices (but worth to pay for, but not to collect or to gain profit, but to drink it) for the Ardbegs 70's) I've been drinking since the new introducing 10 years old.
