Honestly, I used to find talisker 18yo and highland park 18yo difficult to tell apart, but highland park has more smoke and orange while the talisker has more lemon and is cleaner...also the talisker 18yo is markedly more pleasurable. Lagavulin 16yo is one of the most distinctive tasting whiskies out there and I can't imagine confusing anything with it.

I prefer the talisker 18yo to the laga 16yo. talisker 18yo vs. laga de is a tougher decision.

Complexity-wise, I give Talisker 18 Year Old the nod... It is, quite simply, an astoundingly well balanced, sophisticated pour that ranks in the top echelon of single malts. But as for offering sheer palate impact, Lagavulin 16 Year Old (when at its best) definitely delivers the goods.
