I for one will be trying to get one after all the 1997 "For Discussion" was wonderful stuff !

I work at Oran Mor in Glasgow and believe the Mor means big as well. Oran means song or sound I believe.

The "Ardbeg Almost There" is already available:

Strange that you can't find it on the Ardbeg website... :? Haven't seen it anywhere else at all...have you??

Serge at Whiskyfun.com has a review of Ardbeg Almost There (as a Bonus following his Tasting Four Tryconnels and Four Connemaras). He gives it four out of five stars.

Is it me or does The Whisky auction picture look not quite real. Almost as if someone has doctored a previous bottle. Lets hope the contents are okay.

The almost there on whisky auction is committe approved. What does this mean, was this a bottle only for committe members if it is i haven't been made aware of it.

I believe the original bottling is for Committee members only, and then the wider release is "Committee Approved". Presumably the first would be more valuable to collectors.

Not sure what would happen if the Committee members disapproved. I guess it's pretty unlikely, anyway.

I think the only committee bottling done of this series was just the Very Young. No others have been issued, that I'm aware of anyway. Why would they suddenly do an Almost There just for the committee members? I never saw one on their site available. This has to be the standard bottling available to all, to be released really soon.

The still young said committe approved as well as the very young, so my guess is it is just carrying on the label.

I have an interesting question, what will be the cask strength offering in ardbegs stable once the young series is done, I know the Uigeadail is cask strength, but I have considered these to be the CS versions of ardbegs standard OB becuase the Uigeadail is so different than the normal 10, I wonder if they will create a CS 10 yr old to market next to the standard 46% 10 yr old. It will be hard to compare the new 46% 10 yr old to these young bottlings because they are all CS.

Serge must be getting slow in his old age , i had a review of the AAT on my site 2 weeks before him , mind you not as eloquent as his  , also had a H-T-H of the full set so far a week later ! It does prove one thing tho , the 800 and odd referrals a week i'm getting from the banner on this forum to my site are none of the regular posters !
Oh well !

Nice review SOI, I hadn't been to your site for a little while and had some catching up to do. I bought a bottle of the young ardbeg put out by the SMWSA and I'm interested in including it in a full lineup as well.

And I bet Mr Picky isn't one, or he might have taken issue with the pop-up message

"You Should also be over your countries legal drinking age to view this site!"

I have to ask if its not yet been released how come its already on auction sites? Even the committee members don't know about it yet.

I would say there are a couple of possibilities:

1. A few bottles have been let out early.
2. Some sellers may be selling 'futures' which they don't yet have.

i was also surprise about committee members not being told. I reckon it must be already available at the distillery and people have been on holiday to islay in the past week or so. Hopefully thats the case becuase i'll get to try it next week.

Does anyone know what the general price is going to be for this one?

I fear that some of these early release sales are going to fetch crazy prices compared to what everyone will be able to get the bottle for in just another week or two.

I seem to remember Germany having the Still young at the end of March last year, and seeing that both places mentioned are in Germany maybe it was released a little earlier this year, There is definitly a picture of the bottle in both cases and the ebay pic shows 4 boxes and it doesn't look to be an official press release picture.

Hi Rob,
the supplier I use for Ardbeg sends me a new pricelist every couple of weeks and as yet, this hasn't been listed.

I think from a posting made on my sites forum by Geert tonight , the bottles on E-bay / Whiskyauction may have originated from Belgium as he bought some at a show there .

Almost there will be available in UK from 26th through the Ardbeg website and on general release (e.g. Oddbins) a couple of weeks later, says the PR lady at the distillery...

Yes, the Ardbeg site does have a little blurb on the homepage stating it's up for sale on Monday the 26th! I wonder when it will get to Norway?

That is alot of bottles, I thought there were only 6000 each of the first 2 released. 2400 to one country would be a big chunk of that or are they releasing alot more to keep up with demand?

Tasting Notes?

Postby Wendy » Thu Mar 22, 2007 8:34 pm

Ardbeg Almost There: I was wondering if anyone has read or can post tasting notes on this bottling.

Thank you,
Wendy

 I didn't refer to page one or two of this thread before posting. I see that Kallaskander has linked a review by Serge and, of course, Gordon's, Spirit of Islay website. I will go and check them out!

Thanks Les, that's interesting as I'm tracking a couple on Ebay (Germany) at the moment to see what they sell for.
