Color: Dark brown, looking a bit like a very old tawny
Nose: Woodsy cologne, orange peel liqueur, baby's breath, sand, honey
Palate: High-toned and orangey, the honey hits late and hard balanced with the sweet woodsy perfume you would expect from old sherry
Finish: Long and strong; the bonfire smokiness (which is focused and pure) is well concealed only appearing as a late accent
I don't share the critics' unbridled enthusiasm for Highland Park, but this is one of the better ones. A bit clunky right now, some time in the open bottle may smooth it out.
