I just wanted to share this with other A'bunadh fans.
I haven't tasted a really good A'bunadh in a couple of years; Last night I tasted A'bunadh Batch #42, and it was absolutely delicious. Caramel, raisins, sherry, pears, apples, fruitcake, sweet and some nice heat ( I usually put a teaspoon of water in a 1.5 oz dram). This was a lot more like the older Batches were.
It was the first batch I've liked in a couple of years, since Batch 26. I went back and bought two more just to stockpile for a rainy day.
Willie JJ wrote:I liked it, but thought it had a flaw:
Nose : Orange zest, spices, gravy browning. Classic A'Bunadh with a trace of sulphur. I've always liked this stuff.
Taste : More sulphur emerges on the palate, but its bearable. Lots of cinnamon and cardamom with underlying sugar.
Finish : Spiced rubber. The sulphur makes it a little bitter.
Comment : Not a clean batch, but still an enjoyable one
I am surprised that you picked up sulfur. The bottle that I have is quite sweet, creamy, lots of caramel, and fruit, and plenty of pleasant heat (no bitterness or sulfur). I have had other batches the last couple of years that I did taste sulfur, and bitterness (a funny aftertaste like new oak almost).
It makes me wonder if the Batches are so large now that there is a lot of variance within a batch number?
