Dalwhinnie 15 year old

All,
Here's my latest tasting....let me know what you think.

Name: Dalwhinnie 15 year old
Central Highlands
Color: yellow, straw
Nose: sweet melon, honey, delicate, a bit of malt, hay
Body: Medium
Palate: coating then quick to disappear, slight prickle that stays
Finish: pleasant, full, gently warming, slight smoke, lasts for quite
awhile
Comments: One of the Classic Six, gotta love it. This one is very gentle. Excellent.

Dalwhinnie 15 was one of only 8 malts to receive a Gold Medal at Australia's Malt Whisky Convention last October.

I happen to have had some Dalwhinnie just last night, and I was quite impressed. It actually reminded me a bit of Bunnahabhain, but neither as harsh, nor butter/toffee ish. I was impressed with how well balanced it was... flavorful but not harsh or over strong, and with a really nice round finish.

It's a good malt and one of the few that can take a little ice when it's very very hot out (it's starting to become warm here so I'm planning ahead), I like it.

I like Dalwhinnie but it's a while since I bought it. It's quite good but there are better ones for the same price available so I tend to get them instead.

I used to think it was more of a woman's whisky but then my Grandad enjoyed it and my Gran didn't.

I have come to prefer Dalwinhhie as a post dinner dram. The honey in the finish is a lot more pronounced and enjoyable, post dinner.

In fact, I find it very similar to Balvenie especially on the finish.

i've always gotten apple esters and ketones when i sample the 15yo db dalwinnie along with the original poster's excellent tasting results.

I agree with Bruce Crichton. I've always liked Dalwinnie, but not at $60 cdn. For that money I can get my favorite (Talisker) or Glenmorangie with some change to spare. Redbrest would also be a possibility. Of course what I usually do is wait for the 2x yearly sales that come around, although what you find in these sales is usually pot luck.
