I've tried both Macallan 10 year and Glenmorangie 25 yr old (1975 edition) , and did not like them. However, I really liked the Glenmorangie 25 yrs. old Malaga Wood Finish.
Are there any other comparable or better whisky ?
Most beginners prefer the latter (like I do). I would recommend The Balvenie Double Wood 12yo, a nice smooth whisky. Palete: Impressions of cherry, vanilla and honey, with a little oak in the finish. At least thats what I think Impressions may differ from others. And the price is ok, too, imho.
Perhaps you should try a Bourbon, like the Woodford Reserve.
I hope that was a help.
It is a lot cheaper than Glenmorangie 25 yr old Malaga Wood and looks like it received good reviews from Michael Jackson/Jim Murray. Definitely have to locate it in the States.
BTW, I liked the sweet/fruity/malty tasting of whisky right now. So, if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.
Some so called whisky buffs turn their noses up at these common expressions, but they're not top-sellers for nothing! Also, a nice 'easy' introduction
