Will try to acquire a PE for the night within the next week to have a bit of variety, should i have the opportunity. If not forgive me for posting my thoughts either early (Sat afternoon) or late (Sunday Night) and therefore not quite Live!!!
I live in hope
Looking forward to seeing you at the tasting, feel free to post notes before, during or after the tasting. I think that you'll find people strolling in and out anyway, depending on what time zone they are in.
Hope you can make the PE tasting - the more the merrier! I'm usually unavailable for the actual live part myself and end up chipping in a day or so after, although I'm going to try to make damn well sure I'm here for this one

And many thanks for the Bladnoch notes Stuart - up to the usual standards!!
Anyway, un-bloody-believable - I can't do next Saturday! . I'll be in Wales watching a road rally, probably setting off late afternoon-ish so I'm almost certain to miss the start of the tasting and definitely the bulk of it. I'm genuinely annoyed by this, as I've received samples from various members specifically for the tasting. I was also really looking forward to it, but the road rally is a must I'm afraid as I'm in training to become a co-driver - amateur, of course - and the Welsh events are the ones to watch.
However, chances are quite good that I'll be back in the relatively small hours of Sunday morning, so hopefully I'll be able to catch the US members - and possibly even one or two dirty stop-ups on this side of the pond - taking part and join in with them. And even if I'm not back until later than planned I'll definitely be tasting a few samples, so will be adding notes at some point. I'm not totally missing this one!
It appears i will be able to join in and have acquired the following: a bottle of Port Ellen from the Old Bothwell Co. It is a 26yo distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2006. From a single Oak cask, it comes in at 53%.
The father in law has insited he joins in the fun (mainly because i am opening a bottle of PE). More than happy to swap samples with anyone, if there is postage time.
lohssanami wrote:I might sneak in and participate a little. I have 4 different samples that I have saved from a few members, but I regretfully don't have a bottle of PE to have sent around to anyone else.
No worries Tim, glad to have you participate, and I'm glad I had some stock I was able to share with you.
After all, you've help feed my AR fettish until I was able to get a bottle, so I at least owe you that much!
Willie JJ wrote:The swapping wasn't meant to exclude anyone Tim. All are welcome.
Haha...I figured so much, but I still felt like a neighbor kid sneaking in the back door of a birthday party right when they are about to cut the cake.
Here's my lineup:
19yo Spring 1982 McGibbons Provenance 43%
22yo 1979 Sig Vintage Refill Sherry Butt Cask #5537 43%
23yo 1982 Provenance 46%
25yo 1979 Old Malt Cask 50%
Thanks to Nick, Ryan and Mikey for the help...

I am very excited about Port Ellen!! I'm a big fan of the PE to begin with and from the looks of it I have some excellent samples to taste.
I won't be available in the afternoon though, only in the evening. Somewhere in the area of 9PM EST.
....unless I take on C57's philosophy of pouring very small measures!

This is really good fun.
Received with thanks Willie, (and thank you for the extra sample, very kind of you). You should also have mine by now ( i hope). Can't wait until Sat!!
TreacleSponge wrote:I should be able to make it on Saturday. I have a Bladnoch bottling and I might be able to coax out the last drop of Dewar Rattray if I wring out the bottle.
The more the merrier TS!!
I'm not sure about that, Ganga what do you think, we do it here, or in a new thread?
It would be nice to have the thread set up like Matt used to do for us, I liked the auto-refreshing posting page that was used.
I tried to figure out how he did it by looking back at other Live Tastings, but Matt used the same url every time, yet it lead to a different and unique spot.
Are there any computer experts out there that can figure that out, or is it a Whisky Mag admin thing only?
Ganga wrote:I'm back from the field. If there is nothing started first thing tomorrow morning (my time), I will set up a new thread. As Stuart has stated, "It's cleaner." This will be by about 7 AM (3 PM London).
3pm BST? Woooo, I get to do some PE tastings tomorrow!!
Unless, of course, the tasting strictly starts at 7pm BST, in which case I shall refrain from participating in the tasting until Sunday.
Collector57 wrote:Start as early as you like Stuart. I don't think it's rigid...
Heh, I suppose if I start at 3pm and go right on through until the time I'm going out I won't be rigid either!
Er, that came out wrong didn't it?
11 drams in four hours? Possible, if they're very small drams. Oh, and still be able to read a map well enough to get my driver to Welshpool, navigate some white lanes using an Ordinance Survey map whilst there and get us back home safely?
I think I'll taste just the one or two beforehand...
