Gagna,

I chose Ardbeg, because that's what I have the most bottles of right now. I'd have picked Laphroaig, but it wasn't an option. So whatever is chosen based on this list, I have at least 1 bottle so it all works for me. :D

Caol Ila for me as well, again for Nick's reason that it's often overlooked but is such a great malt. And also because it might tempt Nick to open that OB 25 he's got so I can compare notes with RMW's new G&M CC 25 that I've just received... :P

I went Caol Ila as well for much the same reasons as everyone above. Sounds good to me. :)

I'll suggest Edradour for May's tasting. I don't think this distillery gets enough notice and they produce some brilliant bottlings. They certainly do enough wine finishes, so I don't think variety would be an issue

Glenfarclas.
I had a 1990 vintage... and that was the best sherried whisky I've ever had... I have one bottle left.

I'd like to do Edradours at some point, but I only have one at the moment.

I'm going to suggest Macallan be added to the April poll. It seemed to be overlooked on the voting for March.

Good thinking ryguy. I'm ready with an 18y Fine Oak and would love to.

Have we ever done a Glenmorangie Line up?

That would be nice (especially with all these bargains to be had!)

Mmm, Caol Ila's my pick too.

I favoured Maccallum but would be keen to dabble in my newest shiniest favourite, Caol Ila, next!

I fairly leapt upon Caol Ila, seeing as it's one of the SMs that I really enjoy when I'm in the mood for something to reach out and shake me.

Regretfully, Mrs Musky can't handle the smoke that comes off the liquid so will have to keep out of the room until it disappates.

Really looking forward to this one!

Just ordered a nice set for the tasting, 3x20cl
Caol Ila 12, 18 and CS .

It will take more than a week to arrive, when is the tasting? I'm getting nervous already.

Looking forward to get them. The Balvenie samples are still not finished yet. They are small but giving so much pleasure. The 20cl bottles will be perfect I guess. If I like the size I might buy smaller size bottles more often. Otherwise I'll end up with a hundred open bottles... :D

When's the tasting again?

I just have the 12. I have to find others. Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Hi folks

I'm new to this game and very interested in the Caol Ila tasting on Sat 19th April. I like Caol Ila although at the moment I don't have any. I'll have a rake in Edinburgh at the weekend to see what I can get my hands on. If you can give me some tips on how to take part in the live tasting that would be appreciated. If anyone would like to meet up for this or any future tasting, please let me know. I live in Livingston and work in central Edinburgh.

Slange
Steve

Welcome to the forums Steve, and nice nickname :D

Taking part in the live tasting's easy; just be on the forums at the time of the tasting (usually 7pm GMT) and look for the Whisky Tastings sub-forum. In there, I think the thread for the tasting is put in the Announcements section at the top of the page. Taste whichever bottling/bottlings you have of the chosen whisky and post notes (either in your own format or using the board's own VB Tasting Note template, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't...) in that thread as you go. It's that simple

I find it to be a lot of fun, and it's always interesting to read other people's notes and what their opinions are. It also tends to last a few days afterwards for those to take part that missed the actual event, as I did last month and will be doing again this time round

Thanks for all your replies. I have been to Mark D's (Cadenhead's) tastings before and they are good fun. I look forward to the tasting on the 19th.

As do I! Having a little trouble chasing down some Caol Ila here in the outskirts of the colonies...but I am sure I will find something by Saturday.

I'm not sure, I don't think it has been mentioned. Plus with only a week left, I think the people in the States would miss out anyway. :(

What, you're not joining me out here in CA? 1400 for the New Yorkers and 1900 for the Old Yorkers.

Chances are I'll be in early for this, and then I'll have to skip out after things are well under way. Then I'll be back later in the evening (if people are still dramming) for a few more goodies.

I'll be tasting at least these two, and may pick up some one of the 12 or 18 OB's.
SMWS Cask #53.108 Caol Ila 10yr @ 59.9% ABV
SMWS Cask #53.109 Caol Ila 15yr @ 54.5% ABV
