Nose: Quite weak really. Apart from that, a lot of the standard sherry notes. Varnish, sweet oak, marmalade, raison, licorice and some yeast. Some floral soapyness as it opens up.
Palate: Much better now(more punch). Quite minty, cherry, raisons, currents, marmelade and some warming spiceyness(pepper and nutmeg).
Finish: Medium length dominated by cigar leaf, raisins, some nuttyness and quite some mint.
Overall a not spectacular but very solid sherried malt that seems to have been constructed not to offend.
Nonse: Some Colgate mintyness. Chargrilled peppers, walnut, marmelade, fresh cut grass, putty, salt, citronella. Yeh it's a bit odd.
Palate: Softish delivery. Now the sherry influence starts to come through. Cherries, sultanas(ok there's the sherry bit), bananas, putty, brazil nut, black pepper.
Finish: Shortish and dry with putty, walnuts, sultanas and bananas.
Odd, perfectly fine to drink, but nothing special. Although it doesn't state on the bottle, I'm thinking this might be a blend with a portion of sherried malt added(the only clue is a statement on the bottle that says sherry influenced).
Nose: Honey, sherry, lemon, green apple, malt
Palate: A touch oily, marmelade, honey, salt, toffee, apple, hint of strawberry, smoke
Finish: Medium length with Honey, strawberry, apple, fresh mint, toffee and smoke, ultimately drying. After 10 minutes or so it's the smoke that lingers.
I truelly believe if you are a fan of HP12 you'd be quite smitten by this. Unfortunately I'm not, so this one remains a drinkable but unremarkable whisky.
I had reviewed this one on nonjatta 8 mths ago and I was interested to look back and compare with these notes. Some flavours stood out this time and some flavours from previously seemed not to be prominant at all. Overall impressions remain the same.
Nose: Big, bold sherry as you would expect. Marmelade, cherries and woodstain. More woody with water.
Palate: Neat it's not for the feint hearted. Blistering stuff that needs water to tame. With water the mouth feel is reasonably smooth, with sherry, raisons, lovely orange dark chocolate, crumpets with maple syrup, brazil nut and mint.
Finish: Is surprisingly, not particularly long, with mostly the flavors form the nose and then fades to a hint of grassyness/timber.
Can't quite hang with the best sherry matured whisky's I've had from Japan, but not none the less very good.
Old Malt Cask Distilled At Braeval Distillery / Aged 10 Years / Fully Matured In One Sherry Butt (761 bottles in total) & entitled "A Single Cask Bottling for A Fine Cigar's Pleasure" (no accompanying cigar for me on this occasion)
Colour: Lemon gold with a faint straw cast.
Nose: A whiff of acetone. Pear pastilles. Honey. Clover. Dandelions in the spring. Wet grass. A very, very faint scent of saddlery or, perhaps, cured tobacco leaves.
Palate: Viscous to the point of stickiness initially. Sweetness immediately followed by JalapeÃ±o-like heat. That somewhat candied pear fruit noted on the nose then reappears in the mouth and bores its way right through the spirity heat. Grapey too, in the manner of a Muscat dessert wine. Spruce resin-like spices and tannins pop up from the oak, and the malt seems to be going in different directions all at once.
Finish: A sense of lingering honeyed sweetness fights citrusy tartness amidst some seriously drying input and a hint of burning matches from the Sherry cask.
Comment: Vivacious, and even a little on the wild, disjointed side. Though not exactly a 'class act' on its own, I can imagine this whisky working quite well with a Fonseca or Por LarraÃ±aga (Habanos, of course) along for the ride.
Will dredge up more Sherry 'monsters' from the loch as the week progresses.
It was I while since I had one sober and let's face it, it aint no malt - be that single or vatted/blended. Single malt, the very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to please every taste bud in the room, accept no substitutes.
Back to the Famous, lets say it's drinkable with some sherry, smoke and grain on the nose, palate and finish.
Got home and poured me Springbank 15.
Nose is overwhelming grape fruit, some pineapple, other tropical fruits and a bit of smoke.
Palate is much like the nose but with with less grape fruit and more coconut and red berries.
Finish is the same as the palate but with mint and smoke added.
N: Anis,oranges, smoke and nuts
P: Anis, mandarins, black pudding and red currants.
F: Like the nose plus pudding and smoke.
In my huble opinion this really is a Sherry Christmas whisky.
Nose: Buttered popcorn, toffee, roses, and breakfast cereal. The mouth feel is smooth and oily, but the taste is sweet, and very candy like, mixed with a good bit of breakfast cereals, and nice nutty hints. The finish is quite strong and I think rather shows off the fact that it is mostly aged in ex sherry casks, namely in how warming and completely rounded out the flavor profile is in terms of a slight hint of fruit.
Ichiro's Malt 6 of Clubs 2000 9YO 57.9%
Nose: Gunpowder, lime, white pepper, mushroom, mixed peel. With water marzipan comes through.
Palate: Blood orange, burnt toffee, gunpowder, blackberry, wet earth. With water the mixed peel zings.
Finish: Sweet spices, blackberries(not something I normally find in whisky) Christmas pudding drizzled in warm treacle and buttered shrooms on the side.

Nose: Menthol, oak, match heads, maraschino cherries, sherry, valencia oranges, molasses, candied walnuts, pine.
Palate: Only sweet tooths need apply. Soft and balanced. Menthol, dark cherries, blackcurrant jubes, valencia oranges, molasses, sherry. Smooooooooth!
Finish: Is fairly short, with cherries, molasses, a bucket of valencia oranges, candied nuts and milk chocolate.
The perfect desert spirit.

Lovely amber color. Nutty, spicy and sherry notes on the nose, with the slightest hint of a toffee, and apples. Nice sweet taste full of fresh fruit, lots of leather and apples. The finish is nice and strong with a decent kick of chili peppers, but the sherry influence is quite evident.
Very enjoyable makes me want to try some of the older bottling of their sherry oak casks.
