White Horse or Teacher's

Postby Gov » Sun Feb 24, 2008 2:10 pm

I have not had White Horse yet, but from what I have read these two blends are highly rated and similar. What do you think? BTW, for a blend, I think Teacher's is great!

White Horse delivers a smooth and distinctive taste. Try it. Both are blend of malt and grain whiskeys.

Teacher's is one of my everyday bargain drams. I tried White Horse after reading JM's rave in the Whisky Bible, and didn't see what the fuss was about. Its low price might yet make it attractive if I find myself even more financially challenged than I am now.

Echoing the sentiment of IWC etc, for what it is, Teacher's really is quite good.

Will have to strongly vote for the WH on this one. Teacher's is not a favorite.

For what it's worth IMHO, White Horse is one of the best blends on the market.

I voted white horse. I think it is a beautiful blend with a strong distinctive flavor. Especially the old bottles when they were using Lagavulin and Glen Elgin.

I find the mouth feel on Teachers unnerving/synthetic.( but not tried White Horse) I personally would go for BNJ, light well blended could almost be mistaken for a malt IMHO.

Of the two poll choices, I would choose Teachers.

All though, like arkle above, I would prefer Bailie Nicol Jarvie

I would choose neither to drink neat or regularly.
When I have a cold I often buy Teacher's to make into Hot Toddies, but will never drink it neat.
White Horse was not a favourite in the UK and I don't see it here in Bayern.

I see the poll is missing a "Neither" or "Other" option.

I finally got a bottle of White Horse and had a dram of it. I then had a dram of Teacher's. Teacher's wins, but not by a lot. White Horse is a really good blend and it is very cheap! Teacher's has a better nose and a bit more complex taste. Can any tell me what the malt percentage is in White Horse? Also, Lagavulin is reportedly one of the malts, what are the others?

Thanks

Teachers is an incredible bargain;a whiskey that is much overlooked far superior to JW RED

Lagavulin has historically been associated with WH, but mostly it's use has given way to Caol Ila and Talisker. Clynelish is also reported to be a component.

Malt is reported to be about 40% with WH, 45% with Teacher's.

As for Teacher's, Ardmore has been the core.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Someone in Buffalo, NY told me that White Horse was being discontinued. Anyone else heard that?

These two are very good blends. Nevertheless, I vote for Teachers

I've been drinking Teachers from the mid 70's. In that time, Teachers was even better than nowadays 8)

Doesn't stop anyone, does it? Answer the bloody question, or move on to the next thread.

Pick your joke:

-You can ride a White Horse, but if you ride the Teacher, you'll get detention.

-The White Horse includes both ends of the horse.

Any more? (Answer the bloody question, MrTH, or move on to the next thread!)

A white horse walks into a bar and asks for a beer. The barman says

"Hey, we've got a whisky named after you."

And the white horse says

"Yeah? Well give me a glass of Dobbin then."

JWR is superior and indisputably the best cheap whisky around the world. Otherwise, Teacher's has a slight edge over the Horse, so my vote goes there.

That's my opinion.

Superb sense of humour, Yello!

I also drink scotch because it taste like scotch and there is only one place you can get that taste - In a bottle of scotch. Why some people want it, look for it to taste like everything else is beyond me. Go eat cookies and sniff some heather if that's what you want.

Use to drink WH before i started buying malts. Still drink it in pubs with no malts and it is still good.
