Whisky/Whiskey Countries

Postby Onefortheditch » Sun Dec 23, 2007 1:35 am

I've tried American, Canadian, Irish and Japanese whisky/whiskey. Although some of them have been pretty good, I still think the best stuff comes from Scotland....but then I'm a Scot and definitely biased.

What do you think?

Scotland for the BEST, also no hesitation, but I have been very pleasantly surprised by some of the bourbons currently on offer and also the Milford 10 from New Zealand.

Ireland also produces some great whisky, but overall, Scotland must be the best.
Why the best?
Well, I find much more complexity, variety and consistent quality in the Scottish offerings.

This is a poll which in my mind is impossible to answer. The irish pure pot still whiskies I've had are just as good as the best scottish whiskies in my opinion. The irish blends are much better than the scottish alternatives I've tasted. The variety and availability benefits Scotland in this poll but to even things out a little I'll say Irland.

Scotland has the best selection, or mabye the US. Of course that doesn't mean it makes the best whisky. I might do, though. My favourite is Irish, but that doesn't make that the best either.

The "BEST" is kinda' like the "TRUTH". I can tell you what I like and what I think, but I can't claim to pronounce on the "BEST" as a universial truth.
 :)
It was SMS for me. I don't know why, but Bourbon, Tennessee, etc. just does not taste good to me, and roils my stomach. I like Scotch, though!
:D

For variety Scotland.
For the most boring. Some Scotches. Too much peat.
For the ultimate smooth ones. Ireland, though I've never drunk Japanese etc.

How come Scotland and Wales are treated as different "countries" but the US is just one big one? :?

I'd have to say Scotland as well, though followed close on its heels by Japan and the US.

Hay to stick to my roots and vote Irish .... even though I have plenty of favourites in Scotch, American and Japanese too
