I don't know whether I have had the "original" Havana Reserve or not. But when I did try the Havana Reserve I was disappointed. It felt rather artificial and sugary - not sure Glenfiddich needs added sweetness. I liked the extra viscosity of the 15yo.

Had 2 glasses of Glenfiddich 12yo down the local last night. Brand new bottle and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised .....

So after that it still is my Favourite Glenfidich

I really must try some of their older range though

I personally would go with the 21 every time, very nice dram indeed! :empty: :empty:

I prefer the 18, but it is a close call. The 15 and 21 are great as well.

Just had a dram of the 15 yo Solera Reserve the other night and I have to admit it was as good or better than I remember. Highly recommended - best 'bang for the buck' IMO.

I agree that the Caoran doesn't work Adrian. It's drinkable, but the flavours don't work together. You should try to get a taste of the 18 though. It is much nicer than the 12.

As to what their favourite 'fiddich is? I suppose I was impressed by the 30 as a quality dram, but I wouldn't pay the money for it. The 18 is nearly as good IMO and is a lot cheaper.

Cheers
. I agree the 18 for the money is by far the best.

:D I voted for the 18yo, it's such a nice whisky, but the 15yo is a very close second. both are very hard to find here now? plenty of 12yo tho

For me this is a question of mood.
If I feel like a sherried whisky I'd go for the 15.
If I feel like a drier woodier whisky I'd go for the 18.
I guess that's why I have one of each open :D
Such a shame they dropped the NAS fiddich and replaced it with the 12.....

Like a few others I was given a three 20cl bottle 'gift pack' with a 12 15 and 18yo.

I've since bought another full bottle of 12 for 'everyday' drinking and an 18yo for special occasions, which happily seem to arrive quite frequently :)

My wife, who is not a great whisky fan, also preferred the 18 which was a surprise. I thought shed prefer the Solara as she usualy goes for a lighter malt.

Perhaps I'll make a convert of her yet! :)

I went with the 15 yo Solera Reserve for the same reasons everyone else chose it.

I'm glad to read this thread as I just ordered a bottle of Solera Reserve 15 Years on Monday. Hope it arrives before Christmas so my brother can have taste, he really likes the 12yo. I'll give him a dram of the 18yo too.

Swedish Chef, you should post your thoughts on the Solera. I'd be interested to see how your brother found it too, since he is a big fan of the 12yr.

Anyway, I am not qualified to vote, as I have only tried the 12 and the 15yr Solera. I like both and for different reasons. I am a fan of the 12yr, which probably puts me in the minority opinion here. The 12 is great for the citrus, lemon flavours I pick up. Really like that.

The 15yr is good too, a little more complex, but you gotta be in the mood for a sherry dominated scotch. I like it, but at this point, I cant say I like it better than the 12. I can only say that it is different. How's that for departing from the common wisdom?

Novice Scotch Fan, I'm afraid we didn't get to opening the bottle of Solera. :( We had the 18 instead which he really enjoyed. :)

I think I voted for the 18 last year, but the 15 went down so easily. However, my favorite Glenlivet is the Nadurra.

I have not had the pleasure to taste the 30 yet, but the 15 do it for me.

I hadn't tried a 'Fiddich in years, but I recently sat down with the 12, 15, 15 CS and 18 (thanks Ganga).

Tasting them altogher, I'd rank them in this order: 18, 15 CS, 12, 15. The 18 was a great balance of malt, fruit and wood. The 15 was a bit too fruity for me.

I have only had the 18 and the 21 but I found both of them to be great. I don't know if I would buy a 21 over an 18 there is a major jump in price and I enjoy both of them. If I had my way I would own both :D Have to start trying some of the other ones though.

I was surprised that the Solera topped the list, even though it was my vote - admittedly, I haven't had the opportunity to try the higher end offerings for comparison, but the Solera is brilliant.
