my favorite Macallan is the one on the store shelf that I didnt buy. Overrated and overpriced. Cardhu 12 blows away Macallan 12, and they stopped bottling it! Why the most demanded malt in the world. Butterscotch candy! The only scotch designed by a woman. Simple and dangerously drinkable.

I just purchased a 18 year old Macallan. The age reference is to whisky distilled in 1987 or in earlier years.. I like Macallan, but have had a few over time that were not up to the Macallan name. This is. I think it is one of the better Macallan 18 year olds I have had. Lives up to the Macallan name quite well.

Danny, I've found that the 1987 can be variable. The first 2 times I tried it, I thought it was very good and worth seeking out. However, the two subsequent times have been disappointing, being much less sweet and sherried. I would describe it as flatter.

Perhaps we can attribute it to bottle variation since these tastings came from 4 different bottles over 4 different nights...

Hello friends....I just bought the 1987 18 year old Macallan and it definitely is NOT flat....very sweet and sherried. It is really nice. Does anyone else have any opinions on the Mac 18 1987?

Thanks. 8)

None of the above.
The best Macallan I've ever tasted - so far - is the Macallan 1972 Ping2 Speymalt.
Halleluja what a dram.

He, he

We shared half a bottle of this at the last meeting in my whiskyclub... expect to enjoy the other half at the next meeting in june. 8)

I agree, it's a decent dram, though the heavy sherry style is not my personal preference.

Cheers
Jan
