I wonder if your likings have to do with your smoking habits, so here we go: Are you a smoker? (new years eve doesn't count!)
Well, actually I prefer if you would tell it in a comment. It would probably help us to evaluate your comments on peaty whiskies!
I enjoy in-your-face whiskies, not the dainty Lowlanders.

Just out of curiosity what's the significance of New Year's Eve?
In Denmark nonsmokers often enjoy a cigar and use it to light their own fireworks. I think that kind of occational smoking shouldn't count ..
Well, up till now I don't see a pattern in the answers, it was just an idea
I enjoy all styles of whisky and don't find that I have a mood or a season where I enjoy one more than the other. Every whisky I own has it's own character and I'll choose what I'm going to drink on that basis. It's all fairly random though.
I do have 3 Weber's though and used the Kettle on sunday to cook the beef. I love that smoke and smell.
I was once a county x-country runner so did not get hooked in my teens when I was chasing Steve Cram around Markeaton Park in Derby at the English Schools Championships!
Love smokey whisky though, but cannot connect the two habits.
