H2H DM pt 3

Postby Drammed » Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:11 pm

I had a few buddies over the other night and we got into these bottles and it was a great night but the battle was on as to which one people liked more. They are both cask strength and both heavy on the sherry. I thought it would make a good battle on the forums too :D

For me as well... In fact, too close to name a winner.

The Macallan scores points for its surging fragrance and sheer verve, while the Aberlour a'bunadh takes the cake when it comes to finely nuanced characteristics and an overall sense of balance. I generally find that the Macallan really needs a drop or two of water to begin to smooth out and sing in the glass. With the a'buandh, in contrast, I can often happily sip it at full strength.

In short, Macallan CS for its character, Aberlour a'bunadh for its stylishness and complexity, and both for their quality.

Hmmm it's a tough one to call but I ended up going for the Aberlour. It really does depend on the individual batches/bottles though.

Not real difficult for me as the current bottlings go: A'bunadh.
