When should you vote on this forum?

Postby ClubSmed » Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:20 am

Nearly every poll I come across on here has at least one option that I have no personal experience with. This got me thinking as to what the etiquette for voting is here.

I try not to vote unless I have some experience of all options but it does depend on the original question.

If I have got no experience of the question asked.
I do not vote.
The poll however sometimes has a bearing on my future whisky buying .

So you're the one who voted "random"?

I don't take polls too seriously. Aren't they just meant to be fun? I'll vote even if I haven't experienced all of the options (though I won't vote if I've experienced none of them).

I usually vote, but will write in my post that I've only tried X number of the options.

Agree 100% with you, Sean.

The nature of any number of polls often precludes one's ability to offer a totally comprehensive response.
But this fact alone should not necessarily prevent the offering of one's takes on those posted options one does have experience with.
After all, isn't a forum all about sharing good knowledge and solidly based opinions?

I'm much the same - I will usually vote if I have experience with a few of the options, but I'll make clear that that is what I am doing. I think a partial opinion can be relevant, as long as people know that that is what you are doing.

I never vote, because none of the options ever fit. That includes this poll.

Personally, I feel that everyone has the opportunity to vote in polls whether their experience covers a few of the options or all of them. I would not limit someones' involvement in any poll I set up - they will always have something to share (whether I concur with their opinion or not.)

Some Whisky is not always available worldwide, and I would rather vote and comment on the ones I know than ignore a poll someone may have put a lot of effort into.

Of course if I have no experience with the subject, I just lurk on the sidelines without polling and see what information will be shared.

Do you think Mr T would vote in a poll? If it was should we have polls.

YES

or

NO.

Sorry Les, I'm not sure I get your second option.

Are you saying "should Mr. T be allowed to vote in polls with more than one option?"

or "should we have polls at all?"

either way, my answer would be "yes and no".

Oh I getcha! You mean "If the poll was "should we have polls" would Mr. T vote?

Actually, the poll question "When should you vote on this forum?"
is a bit misleading.

It either suggests "Before or after midnight?"

or "when drunk or sober?"

Sorry, it's been one of those days...

BTW I voted option 1.

But the way i feel right now I suggest a 4th option:

"Do you rush out and try all the options you haven't yet tried?"

Not sure how long you've been reading the polls, but I think the question is a rather good one, and one to judge how people behave towards polls in the forum.

I went for the don't vote unless I've tried them all. Which is probably why I'm not that active on this page, as I don't have the years of trying whiskey behind me.
