Hello all, Alvin here hailing from Chicago- I'm a creative: Artist+DJ+Designer
I'd say my whisky journey started with a trip to London a couple of years ago- a friend took me to the Salt bar there, and during a afternoon of smoking hookah/shisha and eating lamb, I ask for a recommendation and the server brings out the Balvenie 12y DW. This last year I have really started to dive in more, attending tastings, and learning which of my friends are whisky fans as well. I even co hosted a tasting on the beach during 4th of july- I hate beaches but love whisk(e)y!
a few favs: Balvenie- 12y DW, 14y CC, 21y PW | Redbreast 12y | Talisker 10y | Nikka from the Barrel | Blanton's Single barrel
looking forward to learning a lot on here!

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
I just found an appreciation for whisky and this forum so I'd like to introduce myself.
My name is Joe and I'm currently living in southern California. My wife has always liked different whisk(e)y but after having a bad encounter when with them in my young and wild days I managed to avoid them for around 25 years.
Around 6 months ago I was looking in the cabinet for something to drink and came across a Macallan 12 with a couple fingers worth left in the bottle. I poured a dram and sat down with it, took my time sipping it and fell off the wagon. Ever since then I've been trying as many as possible.
So far I've sampled from Lagavulin, Laphroig, Talisker, Glendronach, Glen Morangie, Glen Livet, Macallan, and Balvenie. Not many in that list that I've actually disliked. Next on my wish list is an Aberlour.
Thanks for the site and a lot of interesting reading.

Hello ladys and gents, im from Australia. My old man brought me up on blended scotches before beer, so I've always gone back to it... last couple of years I have been distilling and have moved to all grain. But to learn and appreciate the art, I trying to research and see what connisourers think and say. I prefer single malts and at least 12 year's aged. Always willing to learn more
Cheers Linny

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
Thanks guys .... just wondering if you can post any links of good reading of reviews ... at the moment i read wikipedia, forums and the distillers page to see the history of the liquor to sort of replicate recipes and flavours... A master distiller is an art form and not a science. but like a musician trying to play a song , i too like to break down the flavours and try to replicate them

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
Hi guys! I'm a Milwaukee-raised beer and whisky aficionado. I joined this forum to broaden my perspective and expand my knowledge in regards to the massive world of whisky. As far as my whisky preferences go, I enjoy mostly bourbons and scotches, and I'm always on the lookout for something new and exciting!

Hi all,
My name is Keith, I'm 30, I live in Essex and I love single malt whisky! My two main faves are Talisker 10 and Laphroaig 10 which I absolutely love. I like a beer as much as most, but you just can't beat a decent malt! I'm actually a bit of a malt purist as I wholeheartedly believe that aside from a dash of water, (if that's your preference) a decent whisky should be left well alone!
But now my opinions are out of the way & before I do too much babbling, I'd just like to say it's lovely to be here & if anyone wants to chat, drop us a line, I don't bite!

Hello to everyone!
I'm going by the username Allmans1825, being from Bandon Co. Cork, Allmans were one of three recorded distilleries in the town but realistically the only successful one long term. While I am a consumer of whiskey and have a few old bottles tucked away for posterity my main interest is Irelands social, commercial and industrial heritage in relation to its various drink industries. My collection of advertising and packaging which spans an accumulation of over thirty years currently reflects how the various companies marketed and sold their products at home and abroad. Rather than just collect I also research their history (which at times can be arduous given how little exists about some of them) and try to compile an historical biography of each one in turn.
Collecting like whiskey is something to be shared, so if I can help anyone with an historical matter of an Irish concern I will help as much as my knowledge permits.
Slainte.

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
Trust me to make a dick out of myself and go straight for the forums asking stuff and responding THEN finding an 'introduction' forum...sigh...
Hi I'm Jess I live in New Zealand. I am a bar manager and have just found an underlying passion/obsession for whiskey. I want to know anything and everything..but mostly taste it all!..
Because I have driven my boss crazy with 'whiskey' talk over the last few months I thought I'd go find a forum, learn more and share stuff with people who appreciate my new found hobby

Well, I have registered today! I'm Manuel (Manel for everybody) and i'm portuguese!
I am 22 years old, so quite new to whisky and although trying to get more knowledge and experience with lots of different whiskys..... it's next to 0 compared to most of you!!!!
My first encounter with whisky was probably when I was 16 or so... since at that age we could only drink beer and wine legally, it was a short encounter.
Only a few years back, when I was 19 or so I started appreciating it. However, I have no intentions in being "Academic" on the matter, I see it more of a companion to enjoy (but still, with respect)
I have posted today! in the 'Questions' section. about which could be the more suitable Islay whisky for me, since I only have tried Laphroaig so far!
I have still no answers, but i'm hoping to hear from you all.
Best Regards to you all, my friends!

Greetings,
My name is Aldo and I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area in the United States. I oversee the operations of a disaster/catastrophe response and recovery company that does large loss. I have a passion for sports cars (own a Z06 corvette and a lexus sc430), Motorcycles (own a hot rod hog Harley heritage classic), guns (favorite is a smith and wesson 357 with 2 inch barrel, 6 shot revolver) and cigars which I recently gave up due to quitting smoking (had a 1500 count cigar collection).
I've been enjoying the education process of whisky, mostly scotch. I know have about 12 bottles. Most recently (2 days ago)_Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC10 I've obtained a few bottles of Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC10 and PC6 I have yet to taste. I had a dram of PC7 last week I very much enjoyed. My go to has been Royal Salute 21yr for the last few years but I'm expanding now. I of course have others which I can discuss later.
I look forward to joining your community

Hi! I'm here because I enjoy whisky and I like to learn about it.
I was abducted by aliens once, quite a number of years ago, and I was subjected to a number of strange experiments. People never believe me - they think I'm joking, so I won't labour the story. Anyway, when I was returned to earth I had an inexplicable, new, craving for whisky and started to try different malts in particular. Before my abduction I had never drunk whisky. I think I have been fitted with some kind of data transmitting device and the range of sensations I experience whenever I drink whisky are being relayed to another race of beings. I think we need to unite in a global strategy to protect the earth's supplies of whisky before the planet is attacked and all of our whisky reserves are taken away.

I'm here for a little help. I love the glennlivet 15 & 18 Also glennfiditch 18. Johnnie blue was good. Only had twice but not as good as the glennlivet IMO. Glennmorangie nectar and sherry weren't that good to me. Haven't tried the original. But I would like to get some insight on the next bottle to buy. Suggestions please!!!

Hello all,
Im a new member to these forums, & my motivation for joining is simple, I am a fan of Chivas Regal whiskies. Recently I discovered I was missing a 700ml bottle of blended 12yo Chivas Regal in its cardboard box, given to me by the godparents, in 1995 for my sons christening in the same year, which we all agreed at the time would be held over until his 21st birthday in 2016. From what I can trace back over the years I can only think it must have gone missing in a house move some years ago. Some may say, "just go purchase another to replace it" but if my memory serves me correctly the bottle was date stamped for the year of 1995, and to have anything but a proper date stamped bottle just, would not be the same. If there is anyway anybody can help me out here, perhaps with a spare bottle eg, you would be helping out a fellow whisky lover, and I would be indebted for life, thank you in advance.

Might as well introduce myself, though I have already been posting.
My name's Paul and I've only been enjoying scotch a short while. But boy am I enjoying it! Can't see how anyone could be more enthusiastic.
Have tried around 15 offerings now, and so far enjoy the Highland Park 12 the most.
However, just ordered 5 samples from Masters of Malt . . . all Islays!
Can't wait to try them. Just tried out my new 'Glencairn' glass last night as well.
What a perfect whisky glass. So enhances the experience.
I've been patiently advised on this site and will continue to post here.

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
Hello everyone.
I've joined this forum for the same reasons as everyone else here..... my interest in, and enjoyment of whisky.
I've been drinking whisky for donkey's years and I believe I am genetically programmed to like it. I don't have a favourite (I'm often asked this question, usually by people who have a 'casual' relationship with whisky), in fact I have many, many favourites ..... And the list is growing. I don't even have a favourite 'profile' - smoky, sherried, salty, fruity, etc. etc. - I can appreciate many different styles, finishes and even packaging!
I do have a preference for cask strength whiskies in general, but that's not to say that I avoid non CS - far from.
Here to read about what other forum members have to say about whisky, and maybe to dare to post some views of my own!

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
Hi
Have always had one or two bottles of Malt in the house usually a Glenmorangie & a Highland Park.
I’m brand new to the forum & newly an enthusiastic amateur Whisky buyer. This started three or four years years a go with a bottle of Lagavulin 16 year old given to me by father in law who said you won’t like the first glass or two but give it chance which i did and now love it with a wee glass of espresso after a meal. This coincided with a professional interest in Whisky which has found me regularly visiting many Distilleries in my line of work & can’t resist a wee purchase at the visitor centres while i’m there so now have a fast growing collection of Malts from all corners of Scotland. My good lady is nearly encouraging in my new hobby.
Just loving the diversity of Whiskies we have & learning all the time. Think it is great that we are about to have a lot of new distilleries adding more elements into the mix & believe this will ensure the longevity / success of Whisky.
Next step is to do a couple of tastings, keep learning more about our great whiskies & enjoying drinking them.
Cheers

Hello all,
I have been drinking Scotch on and off for a few years now...recently I have gone a little over the top (...trying to run before I have learned to walk I suppose). I have come to this forum looking for advice.
I have acquired 12 bottles of Scotch in the last month (6 around $50 each for a tutored tasting as laid out by Whisky Classified and 6 averaging about $200 each...just because they seemed interesting) I also bought a dozen or so samples.
I feel a bit lost if I am honest. They all taste wonderful to me and while I can certainly pick favorites I am not sure what should be my next step. I suppose I should finish a bottle or two before I buy anything else.
I have been attending local tastings as well.
My goal at the end of the day is to learn as much as I can about Scotch and be relatively competent at tasting and scoring.

Hello to everyone in the whisky world!
I'm Gary 59yrs young ,live in Brighton, On, Canada . I have enjoyed scotch whisky for many years and have converted my brother to scotch and golf as well.
While I really like the sherry finished bottlings some are TO over the top and need to change to something else for a while like Glen Moray or a nice rye whisky. Vodka and cranberry juice when whisky just won't do. While I frequent a few other forums I am not much of a poster, so pls forgive my long silences, I'll chime in once in a while.

My name's Tom. I started to develop a taste for the finer things in life while I was at university in Bath. There is some fantastic real ale around that part of the world and I think I sampled it all in my time!
Unfortunately, probably coincidentally, after a particularly yeasty real ale festival in my home town and, what I thought at the time was the mother of all hangovers, and, subsequently, a number of visits to the doctors. I found out I was intolerant to wheat (gluten) and it was 'bye bye' to all of my favourite real ales.
Luckily, it didn't take me long to find the wonderful world of whisky and once again I had a vice to indulge. This one was arguably even more of a love affair, particularly as a research chemist, I've been fascinated by the stuff ever since and very partial to a dram or two.
By a bizarre sequence of events, I now find myself back in the UK and embarking on an exciting new journey! I'm starting a small independent distillery on the South coast of England. I won't be releasing any whisky in the immediate future, but it is certainly the eventual goal. In fact, if any of you have a few minutes, I have a market research survey I could use some help with.

Look forward to hanging out here and sharing the journey.
Cheers,
Tom

Re: NEW MEMBERS - INTRODUCTION AREA
Hi, I am whisky lover, Single Malt especially, from about two years.
I like all of them, do not have my favorite yet.
