Guardians - got the gift!

Postby RufusA » Thu Nov 15, 2007 12:41 am

It's here!

Tore open the packaging and out fell something of beauty, and potentially useful!

Thumbed through it, and right there in the centre was something that got my heart pounding. A stunninng picture of a bottle of 57.2% Nadurra!

On the back is the exclamation "Taste the Glenlivet Nadurra, it's a natural".

Could it be, would it be....I read the covering letter, a personal message signed Slainte - The Glenlivet Distillery Team. Offering me an introduction to Nadurra.

Wow - at @*&^ last!

But Oh the pain, the agony - talk about rubbing salt in to the already painful wounds.

Whilst our American friends may be supping it's delights, my friends would probably flail me and rub chilli in my eyes if I dared to send them postcards about something THEY STILL CAN'T BUY!

IMHO a marketing own-goal - and a Foul at that!

My Nadurra lies over the ocean,
My Nadurra lies over the sea,
My Nadurra lies over the ocean,
O bring back our Nadurra to me.

Bring Back, bring back
O bring back our Nadurra to me, to me.
Bring Back, bring back
O bring back our Nadurra to me.

Agreed, I too was a bit underwhelmed, to say the least - after all they did write a few weeks ago to say 'a special gift is on it's way to you'.

Perhaps they should change their Guardians motto to 'all teasing and no pleasing'?

Thankfully I picked up a proper, cask strength Nadurra (lovely stuff!) in the summer from the distillery but I would grudge paying the same price in fuel, as it would cost a bottle, to drive up for another.

Or perhaps it has an underlying message of getting you to visit and use the special key :?

Rufus,

Thats very funny :D , someone at Glenlivet should take on board what you are saying though it does have a serious point!!!!

Bottle - :( you misunderstand

WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS:

It was a picture of a bottle - printed in the middle of a pack of post cards all having scenes from around the distillery, all promoting Nadurra on the back - which we can't buy in the UK.

AFAIK anyone can register to be a guardian of the Glenlivet, and details can be found on their website. USA based customers may get directed to the .com version which AFAIK has different mailings.

Don't get me wrong I think being a Guardian is fantastic, but this latest gift wasn't quite up to what we usually expect from our dear friends at the Distillery.

I received mine yesterday in the post and, yes, it is a package of bound postcards, photos from around the distillery. Andy Bowman takes exceptionally evocative photographs in near black and white with subdued tones peering through.

They do make me wish to make the trip over again to see for myself. For now, the photos serve to refresh my memory of the lovely Highland scenery I enjoyed on previous trips.

A very nice gift to receive and appreciate.

No and think about it, would any self respecting distillery manager allow someone like me, that revells in sampling the stuff, near his facility as an employee? I could only wish someone would be so foolish!

I studied Fine Arts at Uni for a bit and every once in a while the artist rears his ugly head and says nice artsy craftsy things. I do try to keep him under control. Whisky helps.

Okay - for those in the UK it looks like the 'real' (cask strength) Glenlivet Nadurra can now be bought direct from Chivas (along with other distillery only bottlings):

http://www.maltwhiskydistilleries.com/t ... fault.aspx

I've sent a web enquiry to Chivas and will confirm.

Leither it's true the nice lady from the Glenlivet visitor centre phoned me back last week with the same info that you have got. I've not got round to ordering one yet.

Folks,

As Leither says, the new batch of Glenlivet Nadurra is available through our mail order site.
Cost is £38 per bottle with £7 P&P (Fedex delivery).
The delivery charge remains the same regardless of how many bottles you purchase.
Let me know if there are any problems.

Oh - and just noticed the Longmorns hidden in the "Others" section.

Including the new(ish) 17YO cask strength. At a very reasonable price!

Only problem is, someone has shrunk the bottle by 20cl - those angels must have been very thirsty!

.... dusts other side of credit card and hope SWMBO doesn't open credit card statement until after Christmas ....

Folks,

I was trying to think of a witty and smart reply for Rufus but failed miserably
There is someone out there with a sense of humour putting an item like that on e-bay. I would love to say they were collectors items that should be loved and cherished forever but then I would be talikg the **** also.

The thing with the postcards is they cost a fair bit for the postage, but at least you don't need any packaging.

I was at an event a few weeks ago, and after speaking about scotch, a gentleman showed me his Guardian of the Glenlivet metal card.
I am curious how to get one of these.
Is it from a certain bottle, or online registration.

Guidence is appreciated!!
